Grampi, just be happy it wasn't Elemental Designs you had an issue with... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/escape.gif.52b661afb17bde1db0e0c7da97e75b38.gif

Great thread, would read again.

Anyways, it doesn't appear that user error was involved in these issues unless of course you dropped the 2nd unit on the ground knob first or something. The seller you've chosen probably doesn't stock the products you received many of them send items through drop shipment from somewhere else. If thats the case they may also had to wait to get the one you sent back to them back to the original drop shipper before a replacemetn could be sent to you.

I can't believe how badly I'm getting porked up the anus by this True Value Electronics place. The replacement 9887 showed up Thursday and I thought it was a new one because it had a different serial number than the first one they sent me. So I plug it into the wiring harness in the dash and when I turn the ignition to ACC the HU turned on, which I thought was strange. Usually you have to turn on a new unit using the power switch on the HU. Then I turned the volume control knob and it doesn't work at all. It won't change the volume, and it won't do any of its other functions either. As it turns out, instead of sending me a new HU, they apparently just threw a different one in the box and sent it to me, all this after they made wait two weeks while they SUPPOSEDLY got more new ones in.
I sent them a very nasty email this morning saying I've had enough of their jacking me around and that I want a full refund, but here's the thing. I told them I wasn't going to send this unit back to them until I receive my full refund because I think if I send them this unit back first, I'll never see my money again. I believe they're actually crooked enough to do that. If they won't do this my way, what legal recourse can I take against them? I know I can report them to the BBB (which I'm going to do anyway), but is there any legal means I can use to send this thing back that would give me some leverage on them to give me my refund? Would I be better off just keeping the unit and sending it in to an Alpine repair center to have it repaired?

im not a store, but i wouldnt give you shit without my unit back.

what is their refund policy?

Somehow I don't think anyone's experience with ED could possibly be any worse than what I'm going through.

At this point, I really don't expect any type of resolution from this place. They can't seem to do anything right. That's why I just sent the unit to a REPUTABLE place for repairs and I'll just send the seller a copy of the repair receipt and they can refund me that amount. They probably won't do that either, but I've got to try something. What I've been doing isn't working and at some point, I'd like to have a working HU installed in my vehicle. I think that was my original plan when this whole fiaso began......I can't remember. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

In their latest email response they said someone there made an error and packed the wrong unit to send to me. Duh, you think? They told me to give them a day and they would decide what they're going to do. Why do they need a day to decide what to do? There are really only two options; offer me a new HU, or offer me a refund. I'm not even running a business and I figured out that resolution in less than 5 seconds. If these people need a day to figure out what to do, that probably means they're trying to devise another plan to continue screwing me. I know that statement is probably going to draw some flack, but at this point, what else am I supposed to think? Should I suggest to them they should contact Crutchfield to learn some of the basic principles needed to run a successful business? I haven't told them yet that I've already sent the unit in to United Radio Service for repairs in case they decide to send me a refund. If that happened, it would make things easy for me the square. When I get the unit back, I could then send them a check for the difference in the purchase price and the repair costs and include a copy of the repair receipt. I did tell them in a recent email not to send me another unit. Who knows where this is going?

You cannot decide to repair the unit on your own, and send them the bill. If they refuse to pay for the repair you're probably screwed. For all they know, you dropped the unit removing it from the box.
While that may be true, at some point I need to start working towards getting a working HU I can install in my car. Considering all that's happened to this point, I have so little faith in this place I certainly won't run the risk of letting them completely have the upper hand by sending them back this HU while they still have my money. I don't trust them at all. I will be seeking legal assitance (if needed) from my local Air Force base law offices. I can do so at no charge because I am retired military.

That will most likely be necessary. I understand your desire to get it going now, but likely the distributor will refuse to pay for a third party repair they did not approve ahead of time.

I've never had any luck dealing with those people in the past with similar issues. They just don't give a crap about customer service.

If you had issues from early dealings with them, then why would you keep going back to buy more items/stereo equipment from them?. Kinda sounds like your asking for the anal treatment to me...

Aloha

Yah, I think he's just wanting a working head unit.
That's exactly what I want. I've come to realize I'm probably just gonna have to take it up the poop chute on this whole deal and chalk one up to learning the lesson that buying from the cheapest place isn't necessarily a good idea. If I can get some kind of reimbursement from the seller, great. If not, we live and learn and press on.
