I'm looking for a packaged home theatre system. I can read online reviews until I'm blue in the face but I'm interested in what your opinions are as well. I'm not a critical listener but I want a 5.1 channel system that will sound good, produce accurate lows and last. I'm only looking to spend $200 max.

Thanks guys.

Pretty tall order, for good sound, accurate lows and durability for under 200$... just about any that you pick in that price range will probably perform comparably, I'd say just try to get a name brand, and listen to a bunch before you buy, and just pick the one you like the best.

I had decent luck with a cheap Phillips HTIB when I was poor high school student... other good brands to consider are onkyo, denon, yamaha ect, but i'm not sure of the price ranges on those...

Like I said, just go listen to some and pick you favorite... and don't plan on using it for more than a year or two.

Gmon guys, im sick of the snobby B.S. that goes on on some of these forums.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

200$ is a lot of money for someone who is young or poor or both. I understand having alot more things on your list than audio gear (bills, a computer, keeping your car running) If you have enough money to spend thousands on audio equipment, then your in the minority.

He has obviously planned his budget, and 200$ is what he can reasonably spend on a full setup. Dont tell him he needs a higher bidget, and dont tell him to buy uber expensive headphones with it instead... that is not a solution:confused:

ps, twisztdpunisher, this comment obviously doesnt apply to you, thanks for not being an elitist **** and actually trying to help, i had costco on my mind too:)

I forget sometimes that we're on an audio forum, I'll try to lower my standards to the lowest common denominator in the future, just in case I offend someone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So you should only come to an audio forum for advice if you have enough money to spend 2000 dollars on just the audio part of your home theater system?

I make about 1200 bucks a month, while working a really good part time job at an architecture firm and going to college. so i am probably above average for people in my age and situation. and my bills are up towards 1000 bucks a month, including eating and gas and all that. throw in going out a couple nights on the weekends, and a few dates, and im dipping into my credit card again already. Not to mention unexpected car bills, books for school, supplies, ect. so when i get together a couple hundred bucks for a new toy, its a big day, and i'm a happy camper.

I dont know what your situation is or how much money you have but keep in mind most of america spends more than they make.

What I'm saying is that's like going on a high performance auto forum and asking about what subcompacts are available for under $5k //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
