im new, have questions

decided to put in a decent sound system in my cherokee. already had a pioneer head unit with infinity components. i browsed craigslist and picked up a kenwood excelon 5 channel amp and a pair of mtx blue thunder 8 inch subs already boxed. whats the best wiring setup? amp has a sub hookup, but only 2 speaker wires. my subs are 4 speaker wires. amp model number is kac650d

Ok, i can already tell im in over ny head. voice coils? how can i tell? each sub is 4 ohm. can i run both pos and both neg to the amps single posi and neg?
Sounds like single. Voicecoil is what you hook the wires up to on the back of the sub. Only 1 positive and 1 negative on each sub. Wire one sub to the amp and wire the other sub to the first sub. So + from amp to + of sub 1 and + from it to + of sub 2. Repeat process for the -. The amp will see 2 ohms and you're good to go.

You can also run both sets of wires to the amp if your subs are in separate chambers.

ok, I see. yes its single voice coil. if it goes from 4 to 2 ohm does that mean the amps power is reduced . is this called bridgeing? What if I hooked the 2 subs to the non sub channels of the amp where there is 4 terminals? I also appreciate your time. Thank you.

Usually when you drop ohms, your amp produces more power, sometimes as much as twice the power. You will need to make sure the sub output on that amp is two ohm stable, if so, you should be fine doing so. The other four outputs would be for your highs and mids speakers. Most use a five channel amp so as not to need two seperate amps for their system.

Keep them at 4ohm and wire it like I said to the sub channel. The amp is stable at 2 ohms. Then you'll have the 4 remaining channels for front and rear speakers.

Got it.alsojust to be sure, the rca plugs going to the sub channel on amp are coming from a sub connection at back of head unit and the other rca cables go to the channels for other speakers?
