Im gonna buck the mainstream idea about caps...

Since everybody seemed to be picking an argument with me, I figured you were joining in.
What post are you referring to? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I thought it was common knowledge on here about my plans.
It's not like we have anything to worry about...you spend all of your time on the forum lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Im hung up on it because I placed it in the first paragraph, right. Perhaps you should utilize a little more of your time and energy reading, rather than responding.
Your arguement has boiled down to I should have explained earlier in my reply, before you stopped reading. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/titanic.gif.8089b7552c370bcc138aa121756d0c0b.gif With your aparent agreement otherwise, the only thing I see left to debate is your stupidity. And the only question left is, will you stay to continue to display it, or bow out of thread while you are behind.

I knew this thread was gonna turn interesting.
It's hard to boost teh post count if you spend your time reading.

There is something fundamentally wrong with a person who will not bother reading more than one paragraph, from someone who has taken the time to explain to them an answer to a question they posed.... but will gladly argue in the thread for days.

Some people are just a waste of keystrokes.

So much misinformation here it's not worth bothering to correct.

I wonder how many people here have engineering degrees to back there claims that they even have a clue what they are talking about. Other then I tried that $hit Yo!

Manufactures don't add all the extra fricken capacitance because it takes up board space and caps aren't cheap. More expensive audiophile amplifiers use more caps. Cheaper amps use less. Well that's not hard to figure out. Most premium grade amplifiers have 20V capacitors on the input to the power supply and 50V capacitors on the output of the power supply.

Lastly it's how you try to use a capacitor. Trying to use a capcitor as a battery well obviously that doesn't work. Using a cap in a SPL vehicle is a waste of time and stupid. If you're exceeding the limits or your alternator then it's time for a new alternator. If you are haveing transient bursts that cause your lights to flicker then a cap will help you. If your lights Dim and keep dimming it is time for a larger alternator.

who ever provided this link it's actually a decent article and fairly accurate. Not very Technical but covers the jist of things. http://www.betteraudio.com/geolemon/newmain/battcapalt/

Things caps are good for:
1) artificial reef

2) target practice (mentioned above)

3) bludgeoning your spouse into submission

4) neat way to numb your tongue

5) will power your 12-volt ***** long enough for a quickie

6) will work AS a *****, once the power runs out

7) a cap, plus a bucket of water and a blindfold, makes a great party game

8) caps, the other white meat

9) portable battery acid dispenser

10) they fit neatly in xmas stockings for those who have been naughty, and wont stain like coal
^^^ I like this one the most. Never know when you might need some battery acid //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i think you overlooked the point of the thread. Audioholic was making fun of all the cap threads that were here at the time. He knows the purpose of a cap. But was making fun of the people who think they need them in place of lack of current.

Not your fault, you probably searched caps and didnt realize the point of thread. however helotaxi did make serious info here.

Oh, and if we are on the subject... manufacturers use an array of relatively small caps. And not just to fit in a small chassis.

But those small arrays of caps make really lousy paperweights.

They use an array of caps to lower the ESR and distribute the heat disipation over more area.

Yup you guessed it.

I'm a member of another forum and I get tired of people comming over saying caps don't work. Then go on to give an SPL example. They usually come from this forum LOL. But that's not why I am here. If used incorrectly they dont work is a correct statement.

Power Companies use them, big ones, to "condition" the high CURRENT spikes coming to your house.. look up.. they are the SQUARE boxes on the pole up above you.

Large Capacity, ie: well pumps, irrigation Pumps, use them to provide a higher Instantaneous CURRENT output to start an electrical motor. sure a pump will run on 8amps, but it requires up to 3x that much CURRENT to start it.

whoever said anything about it "boosting" the voltage.. STFU and /ur account with CA... jesus, a lil google or wikipedia will tell you what a capacitor is designed for. And it aint for car audio, as it is being applied in reference to this thread......(IE trunk BLing)

Please pay attention.... a cap can only carry a voltage equal to its input voltage.

please, GOD, PLEASE, READ THIS! before posting anymore about something you don't actually comprehend....yet, I hope.

-better battery (cranking/cycle amps)

-Big Three

-Alternator

THATS what you SHOULD Be SPending youre money on.
