Im gonna buck the mainstream idea about caps...

ok look, i didnt want this to actually become public knowledge, but here is the low down on me.

i do have my purposes, like amps and crossovers, but after several years of the same gig, i got bored... so i decided to start ripping people off by selling myself for something that i clearly cannot do.

and it worked. it worked very well. suckers were snatching me up left and right, and claiming that i helped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

ahh, gotta love the uninformed. but please, this is my life. dont let the truth out that i am a scam //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Your better off with an extra battery but caps served a purpose when the car audio hobby started. Now with the advent of hi-output alt.s, numerous batt.s and more efficient amps the cap ends up with all the other audio gear sold by the media hype of car audio manufactures.

This tread would serve better if we list other components, besides caps, that were shoved down our throats as must haves.

Example:

phase shifters

noise gates

DA to analog converters

Just to name a few.

Do you know the purpose of the first outboard caps installed in cars? Hint: current delivery had nothing to do with its purpose.

Example:
phase shifters
Never remember these being anything resembling "must haves" but at least they have a tangible effect.

noise gates
Never marketed to the average consumer. Always more of a competitors' item.

DA to analog converters
Again never marketed to any but the "audiophile" and if you knew what to use them for they had tangible benefits as well, especially in the days of cheap onboard D/A circuits and weak preouts.

Nothing else has so little (I'll be generous) benefit but been so aggressively market in the car audio industry as the capacitor. It is to car audio what the high end many k$ wiring is to the home "audiophile." Never proven to have anything resembling tangible benefits, but marketed as an "essential" item to the system.

what about the caps in amps and other electronics? tehehehehe
The input stage of amplifiers does indeed have caps. but, if the amp still needed another farad of capacitance, don't you think the manufacturer would have added it themselves? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Besides, amps have arrays of smaller caps, not these huge inefficient caps people are hooking up these days.

Ok, I know for the money you shouldnt get a cap. Put it into a batt or something.

But if I have a normal *** car, normal electrical, wtih say 1100 rms. My lights are dimming a little, and I have a cap just sitting in my garage. Why should I not use it? I understand that it stores power and your amp just sucks it back up and after it runs out your back at where you was.

I guess I understand the "They arent worth a shit", but for some people its not taking up for them and saying you should use them. But rather saying, they do do a little bit, not nothing like you say.

Some people will be so much against them and say "leave it in the garage" but if the lights are dimming a little and your seeing a few drops, will that cap just laying in the garage not help a little? I have been there done that and as you can see in the sig, overcome them but lets ask a different question.
