Well, I bought two of the $5 8s for a friend of mine as he was talking about get a sub or two for his home theater setup that I've helped him build. As of now, he has a badass TV and a full sound system minus a sub. I figured these would fit him well as he's not a real audio buff and just wants a little something for basically nothing.
I arrived home last night and found these and was instantly disappointed. I ordered two S2s and that's what I got but one of them was damaged. This was NOT a shipping problem and it's pretty obvious seeing how the packaging was in perfect condition and there was no paint at all in the plastic that came around the subs. This sub must have been ****ed when it left the factory. Great QC eD. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Ok, well here are the pics so you can see what I'm talking about:
Whatever, the basket is weak enough that I can almost bend it back into position with my hands. When they both get front mounted, they will flatten out just fine. It works the way they're mounted right now.
I put them both in a 3 cube enclosure tuned to 29hz mounted isobaric (see image below). I've been playing them for about an hour and I'm going to play a 20hz tone for a few hours and see how they sound after break in. So far, I'm **** impressed for basically a single 8. The SQ isn't too bad unless I push them too far. For this enclosure and for them being in an isobaric ported enclosure, they don't have too good of mechanical power handling as I can easily bottom them out with them sharing 100wrms.
They're a little bottom heavy in this enclosure with it peaking by ear around 35-40hz and dropping off pretty quickly below 25hz. On music, they're pretty solid and blend well with my ghetto front stage. I like the sound of these but they don't really hold a candle to my AV12 or my stolen IDQ. I'll try them out in the 3 cube enclosure with only one mounted and then with both mounted and I'll see how they sound in each. This will have to come later or tomorrow as I have things to do tonight. So far, I'm very impressed and I think these will integrate well into my friend's setup.
The enclosure was an old enclosure for a single 12" and I made a ghetto baffle to cover the 11" hole. The baffle leaks but it's not bad and my drill battery died so I'm not messing with it anymore.
If anybody wants any more pictures of anything else, let me know and I'll do my best to get some. I may make some videos but I don't know what of.
