IDmax sounds like crap

I simply hate the sound of large sealed box's, They seem to be very inefficient to me. You really need to build a nice ported box to spec. Night and day! Otherwise go with .8 sealed as said. Youll deff see the difference
x2 I had same problem with a D6 I had it in a big-ish sealed box with 1000wrms and it sounded sloppy and got loud on random notes, putting a bunch of wood blocks to lessen the internal volume made a world of difference

The larger the sealed box, the more efficient the system is.

Think of it this way, in sealed boxes excursion is the key to output. Now, what happens when you place a sub in a larger sealed box? Its easier to get more excursion out of it, which is the same as greater efficiency. Most people's complaints about 'large' sealed boxes come from frequency response, not lack of output (efficiency).

well i am all out of options. The sub hits harder and sounds better if i wire it up to 8 ohms. today i rewired it back down to 2 ohm. popped in a 50hz test tone and started by setting HU vol up to 42(max is 62). i reached a target voltage of 44 volts(1000 rms). reconnected the speaker and started playing music at a volume 42. Sub was not loud and amp was clipping. i backed the vol down to 40 and no more clipping but the sub is just not loud. I played lil scrappy's "no problems" and checked with my dmm and at vol 40 with no clipping i am getting around 42 volts. But when i had the sub wired to 8 ohm it hit harder and sounded better. i mean it makes no sense to me cuz when i had the sub wired to 8 ohm and played no problem it was louder. i was seeing 96 volts out the amp to the sub and the clip light was constantly on but i wasnt getting any distortion. according to the math when i had the sub wired to 8 ohm the amp was pushing a lil over 1100 watt. clip light was on constantly but no distortion it just banged pretty hard. so 1100 watt at 8ohm hit harder and got louder than 1000 watt at 2ohm. it makes no sense to me at all. someone help??????????? o and i do know what clipping is and i can hear it very well in the sub when its clipping!

im not anymore, i thought that was what it was was because of low power but it would have went into protect. but why is this thing louder at 8ohm vs 2 ohm. i dont understand it. i really need some help bad with this crap. I have spent almost 800 bucks this past week trying to get it to sound right, there isnt anyone near me that knows anything about car audio and im almost to the point of selling everything and not having a system!

What you are describing just isn't possible. The speaker should receive more power when wired to a lower impedance. Basic electrical and laws of physics tell us that. So my guess is you are wiring it incorrectly, or there's some other sort of issue going on. Are you checking your final impedance with a DMM?

Dont freak out man, we'll help you figure this out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

final ohm load is 2.4-2.5 ohms. I think i know what is going on though. i think the sub is recieving the 1k watts but just dont seem like it cuz the output isnt there. but what i dont understand is the sub is reaching no where near full excursion.

Ok i really need someone to help me with this. no one around here has ever even heard a IDMAX play so i have no idea as to what to judge by. i mean before the amp goes to clipping i can put my remote to my CD player on the deck lid and it barely moves. My IDq12 rattled my whole trunk and the bumper and all but this idmax just dont seem like its getting loud as the idq was. IDQ 12 was running off a punch 250.2 and was alot louder that this IDmax running at 1000 watts. something isnt right there. sub is wired correctly! i just need some help bad. my number is 9105401404 ask for sean. someone help b4 i throw all this crap in the garbage disposal. cuz right now it sounds like garbage!
