IDmax sounds like crap

well so far i have checked the amp with a DMM. car idling no music gives 13.8. turning the volume up to the point i start hearing the distortion/clipping the clip light on the amp does come on and voltage i have seen drop to 11.6 volts. the reason my gain is up 3/4 way is due to 2v preouts. i need to find out why i am losing voltage and if thats the problem or not. Should i still make the box smaller? ID says not too. but it sounds like i got 1 8 in the car and then bam its clipping all to hell. what do i do? even songs that wang really hard like prodigy's narayan just sound like im running 1 8 and i cant go louder because its clipping like crazy.

well i havent seen 10v yet but i did see 11.6v. but can i cut the box down i need more output because there isnt much output at all before it starts to clip.

ive got my 12" idMAX in a 2.0 cubed ported box tuned to 32hz and it gets loud and sounds real good doing so. really good. really really good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i dont understand i will have to go with a installer error because i have a "large sealed enclosure" according to image dynamics for my idq and it is beautiful sounding no distortion and gets loud

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif how come youre going to have a 2.7 cubed ported box built? isnt that too big for one idmax? if you want to try this, when i first got my idmax, i hooked it up to my home theatre receiver to test it.. be easy on the volume knob though... i turned it up until i could hear a LITTLE something and put my ear close to it and ooh baby it sounded sweet even out of the box just sitting there.. if you put your ear to it. you can do this for now to hear the idmax goodness until your other problems get fixed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

because i am mad. I bought this sub because i wanted more output then my 2 crappy kicker comp 15's that were only getting 200w each. and so far im not impressed. But i know its not the subs fault though.

had mine in a 1.5cft for the longest time, then my amp went out (hifonics) and took the max with it. But during the time it worked it sounded incredible and did get pretty loud for a sealed application. 2.7cft @28hz is what Eric at ID recommends for a ported box. But it's usually alot bigger then most people can do so alot of people dont do it.

I agree with everyone else, its either a bad install, bad amp, or one of the settings isn't right.

Also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif the IDMax is a extremely efficant subwoofer, it should sound good and get pretty loud with just 400-500 watts of clean unclipped power.

Ok been outside messing with the amp and with my HU turned up to a max vol that i listen too i can get the gain on the amp about halfway up before it starts to clip. now how do i fix this cuz i know this idmax can do more. is there a way i can measure how much power the amp is putting out?

ok from what i have heard is that this infinity amp WILL do its rated power. 854@4 ohm and 1300@2ohms. i am clipping the amp so i am positive its my electrical system. im gonna do the big 3 this weekend, rerun my amp ground and change the batt and see if it helps any.

WHOOAAA! wait just a min... I think I see the real issue here. Dude I dont care how great one 12" sub is... It will never hit close to those two kicker 15". I made this mistake too in my early install days.
