I want to go ported - Alpine Type-R 1241D

Hey there .... I currently have a Type-R 1241D in a ~0.75cu.ft. sealed box , and to be honest i'm quite dissapointed on the "SPL" part .... I'm powering the sub with a JBL GT75.4 amp , running 294RMS/ voice coil.

The SQ is totally amazing , i agree , and the excursion beats all the Type-R excursion vids currently on realmofexcursion. The problems is that it got absolutely no SPL ..... the sub moves like a bi**h , but nothing much .....

But now i want a ported box , and i want SPL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I won't give it more then 300RMS because i don't have SSF's.

What volume should i aim for ? What about the tuning freq ? I was thinking 30Hz due to the lack of SSF's ....

can i ask why you are powering a sub with a 4 channel amp? maybe go with a bigger mono amp the Type R's can handle about 500 watts daily. as far as porting... go for it. try to tune it between 30~32hz volume i would go about 1.5ft^3. but you also have to realize that the type R is not an SPL sub its a sq sub. you can get SQL from it but you have to run a bit more power than RMS(but watch your gain levels) have fun with the new box.

I'm running it with a 4 channel amp because car audio stuff is EXTREMELY expensive and rare over here (Romania).. for the Type-R i payed around 230$ , so you can imagine the prices for mono amps , if you manage to find one

In lots of threads i saw people saying that a Type-R goes loud in boxes larger then 2.0ft^3, like 2.4 , 2.5 ...

Would 1.5ft^3 be enough to make a decent difference ? Thanks.

trade that type r in for one of the 2005 type r's or for 2 of the new 10"s

Shipping for a sub would be something like 100$ , and when it enters my country i have to pay VAT(19% of the value)+customs(30%) so again , i end up with a deep hole in my pocket //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

bonesninja , can't do that .... none of the shops arround carry Alpine or anything like that , they just do JBL ... i had to order my Type-R from the country representance ...

thats probably too much for that sub.....Alpine recommends like 1.25 max for a ported box. i wouldn't go too much more than that maybe 1.5 max

i would say yes becaues i'm sure your not actually feeding it 600w rms unles you max the volume out on your headunit.
