I want a "Wowing" 18

Well that may be, but here is a short list that don't offer an 18....the IDmax, W6v2, W7, GTI, TYPE-X, boston acoustics, CDT, RE-SE,...

pretty big names that don't have 18's
And none of those subs are offered in an 18 because 18's cant sound good, right? I wonder why only one of those is offered in an 8. Obviously 8's must **** at SQ also, huh?
Seriously, are you gonna smarten up? Or are you gonna just keep coming here and giving bad info, completely unaware and/or content with your own ignorance? We have discussed this topic with you before, the fact that cone diameter plays little role in SQ, and the fact that a larger sub actually can have the potential to sound BETTER.... yet here you are again. You need to read whole lot more around here, and type a whole let less.

Why dont you go mix some sub sizes and tell us how awesome your SQ is again. I dont mean to be rude, but I really get tired of you ignoring your ignorance. A person should realize when they need to shut up and learn, instead of trying to sound smart and spread bad info in the process. If you want to stroke your ego, educate yourself and then come back here. Or go find a forum where they dont all already know the level of your knowledge, and where they might actually believe you know anything worth reading.

The reason those companies dont offer an 18" is more likely due to their sales model. 10's 12's and 15's sell a hell of a lot more than 18's do.
Shows what you know. Clearly its due to poor SQ characteristics. JL Audio already proved the ideal diameter for SQ. Anything bigger than 13.5" and SQ starts dropping fast. By the time you reach 18 inches, its all over. The sound emanating off the outer 5.5 inches of the circumference of the 18" cone is pure distortion.

im pretty sure JBL is about to come out with an 18" GTI //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

its gonna be straight seckz

Someone's gotta do it for Christ's sake.
And before cotjones corrects me, I should also add that 18's do play slower than smaller sizes. For example, when a 13.5" sub is playing 60hz, the 18 is only playing like 55hz. And who wants to hear that shit? Nobody, that's who.

thank you for once again putting words in my mouth...

EDIT: my definition of SQ is not a system where your substage drastically overpowers your frontstage, and thats fairly easy to do with most 18's

i never said anything about cone size affecting SQ mr. brain surgeon.

whay don't you start paying attension before you open your mouth assuming you know everything...

The reason i think its stupid to do 18"s for sound quality is not because 18's can't sound good, it's cause an 18 will get loud, PERIOD.

so if your goal is SQ, then why would you get somethin that rattles your head so much you can't really tell the difference.

for people seeking an SQ application, an 18 is just usually superfluous. thats all i was saying, I never said nor do i believe SQ has anything (MAJOR) to do with cone area.

Does that mean that no one should buy 18's for SQ? No

there are several options, maybe you have hearing loss and want something that getts loud enough you can hear it and it sound good, maybe you want alot of headroom in your subs...

my point is, for the majority of SQ applications 12's suffice

hmmm and i wonder if there is a reason for that?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Well I'm not talking about comp sq. I'm talking about daily sq. If i want my subs to overpower the mids/highs, I want to hear something that is worth it. Most of the time i'm playing the subs so it melt with the rest of the system. But I want headroom at the same time.

How does the jl 15w3v2 sound from those you experiment, let say compare to an alpine type x (the best sub I got the chance to heard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

No reason that involves SQ, or the lack there of. Or, do they sell more SPL subs like a Solo X, MT or 9500 in 10", 12" and 15" sizes because of SQ reasons as well? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
