I want a "Wowing" 18

You're highly mistaken. Cone size has everything to do with spl. My 10" funky pup dominates against my buddy's 1508.
...shit I've been doin this all wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

For some reason I had the impression that power, motor strength, suspension, and other physical parameters of the sub had an impact, dare I insinuate that the enclosure has anything to do with it?

Cotjones plz edumacate me

Nope, it's all about cone area. Box doesn't matter. A sealed 12 will always be louder than a ported 10...ALWAYS. My boy cotjones told me this so it can't be disputed. My 18" B.A.S.S. sub from ebay ran IB with 200 watts was way louder than my buddies 15" MT off of 3kw.

cone area>all

We've been telling you for pages that manufacturers dont offer many of these subs in 18" versions for sales reasons. THAT is the ONLY reason it doesn't make much sense. But here you've been trying to convince everyone it has to do with an 18" SQ sub being "STUPID". Its amazing you are asking why WE cant figure it out, when we've been trying to explain this [very simple] concept to you for pages.
ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO YOURSELF?

ok i'll stop telling and start asking...

Why can't the sub manufacturers sell 18" SQ lines?

Because 18's don't sound good....thought this was obvious //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

NEVER said that either, i did say that in the same series of sub with the same relative install the larger cone area will almost allways be louder... (and i only say Almost allways because i'm sure someone somewhere has made a smaller sub with a stronger motor or some shit, and most of you are jackasses)

Hey tard fvck, we've told you this multiple times.

Because there is a relatively small amount of people who are looking for SQ and care to give up that much room...

I guess if you are building a SQ system, headroom only qualifies for amplifiers. For speaker displacement, its "stupid". I guess this guy was going for SPL too...
http://www.royaldevice.com/customita3.htm
And yeah, that setup is "stupid" too

I can picture it:

First time that guy turns on his completed system...

"wow, nice:D............................... how much did i pay for this:crap:?

Are you listening to yourself? You came here and claimed 18" SQ subs are "stupid" and presented that as the reason so few exist. No amount of proof that the 18" SQ subs that do eist can still excel in SQ will deter you from your decision that its simply because having a speaker, intended for 'sound quality', that has a diameter of 18", is "stupid".
You do realize some home systems have 15"+ sized speakers.... for midbass, right?

18" subs are not a popular size, be it for SQ, SPL, or shoving up your *** and plugging into a wall socket. For most people, they just dont fit the space well. Most times it is physically easier to fot two 12's in a trunk than it is a single 18, does this make an 18" SQ subwoofer "stupid"? To you it does.

Many people think, incorrectly, that a larger sub like an 18" cant sound good, because they are too 'slow'. Which hurts sales of 18" SQ oriented subs even more than SPL oriented ones. Does this make an 18" SQ subwoofer "stupid"? To you it does.

And lastly, Im sorry but I still cant help thinking that we are all suppose to be taking SQ lessons from a person who recently was trying to convince us his array of four 10's and one 13.5 was the ultimate SQ substage.

No whats stupid paying (in the case of the XXX) $600 extra, when you could've had enough headroom in a 15...
You picked the sub with the largest discrepancy you could find between a 15" and an 18", you quote its msrp figures which we all know is BS, and then try to claim it as the norm, rather than the exception. This further shows your complete dedication to worming your way out of simply admitting you were wrong. What you dont realize is Cot, its not being wrong all these times that has made you the laughing stock of this forum, alot of people here are wrong alot of the time. What makes you stand out from the crowd, is your sheer inability to admit ignorance, your seeming desire to want us to respect what you say when the exact opposite is true, and the diligence with which you will try to defend a flawed argument. Keep it up, please. The forum just wouldn't be the same without you.

That setup is stupid too? LOL! I guess its become clear now, anything you dont agree with, or more often that you dont understand, you simply label as 'stupid' and move on. The mantra of the ignorant.
And how much did you pay for your four JL 10's and one JL 13.5 for your SQ setup? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Im heading to work, play nice kids.

This is the problem with this thread.

YES 18's can be used for SQ applications.

YES 18's theoretically, have an advantage in SQ. This is obvious.

YES there have been TONZ of SQ comps have been won by 18's.

AND YES 18's are just PEACHY for SQ.

MY ONLY POINT is, was, and will allways be...

that in a line of high dollar SQ subs...

The headroom achieved in an 18 vs a 15 er 12 is not worth the price increase.

So no one buys them, so no one makes them.

ergo: buying 18's for SQ is stupid unless you have a specific goal in mind (like proving that solo-x can sound good. and IB different...
