I have nothing against Hawaiians, but why do you all keep coming here to tell us what DC is, yet obviously refuse to even read the quotes we give you from experts who say otherwise? Maybe DC is something totally different in Hawaii. *shrug*

okay, lets start @ the bottom...

we all know, or should know, that an alternating current is an oscillating sine wave where the distance between the peaks are determined by the frequency...right? right. and that a direct current has no peaks or valleys, it is flat...

now the concept of a square wave is "When an amplifier is pushed to create a signal with more power than its power supply can produce, it will amplify the signal only up to its maximum capacity, at which point the signal will be amplified no further. As the signal simply "cuts" or "clips" at the maximum capacity of the amplifier, the signal is said to be "clipping"."

on a side note, it would be correct to assume that the excess heat from a ridiculously clipped 800 watts will thermally destroy the subs quicker than giving them ~3000 watts each of clean power...as stated earlier

for fvcks sake...it was a play on words...if you read earlier in the thread 06 said to whoever he was arguing with "...yaaaaaaay, im special EDgineer..." now we can look @ this in two ways, either the special ed from crank yankers (obvious, if you seen the show) or literally that the dude is a engineer that has a learning disability, requiring special education, such as that the mentally challenged receive through the public education system, and thought it would've been funny to combine the "fact" that the dude is an engineer with the fact that he is special ed. hence the initial, special edgineer, shortened to edgineer.

I understand where you're coming from.

But if you take a snippet of ANY wave, technically it's DC since it's not going up nor down. It's a single frequency. Thus, a direct current.

However, when taking the whole wave, when you get a clipped signal, the frequency is still fluctuating, so it's not "direct current."

You should go and read a book or... 5.

that is what we were looking at, the clipped portion and its ability to, er... overpower a sub, even though the amp is severely underpowered, and not the signal as a whole.

You can say its similar to DC, because for an undetermined amount of time there is no oscillation. But again, time cannot be ignored. Call it similar to DC all you want, but it is not DC. You guys keep talking about a clipped signal like there some evil voodoo in it. A squared sine wave simply has more power (more area under its wave form if you will) than its non-squared counterpart. That's it, more power, period. THAT is what gives clipped amplifiers their notorious fame for killing speakers, the extra wattage. Nothing else. I dont know how else to express it, or what other experts I could quote that would get a few of you to actually believe me. So at this point all I can do is repeat myself.

But the problem is 06alterego uses the term DC incorrectly, and then uses that as the basis for his theories on how square waves affect speaker performance. So assuming a fully clipped sine wave from the ridiculously clipped 800 watt amp, how is 1600 watts going to over heat the coil faster than 3000 watts? Id genuinely like to know the math behind your theory.

When I saw the first one of you guys act this way, I thought "wow there's an insecure person that cant take a joke"... but now it seems to be a common theme in this thread that Hawaiians lash out at main-landers. I mean really, dont you feel a little bit silly taking the Hawaii stuff so serious? I mean, I could say that your inability to link education with tourism is a sign of a lack of education, but you'd probably not take it as a humorous joke... so I wont say it.
