use spray on contact cement. It's about 12$ a bottle but worth it. Dont use that cheap walmart shit either, use the stuff at the fabric store. You can use any material really, hell you can put fur up there if you want.
ive done about 20 headliners over the years. You'll screw up on your first one, count on it.
