So heres the deal:
I had a system installed in my old 86 Chevy Blazer. I thought I was fairly knowledgeable in the car audio department, but after looking around on these forumns I quickly realized I'm not. I thought my system sounded o.k. at best. The high ends were too sharp and the mids were muddy. I was a little more satisfied with the bass, but it jus wasnt loud enough for me. My Blazer died and I am now looking for a new car which leaves me without a bunch of questions. When i posted my stuff on the classifieds everyone said you can buy way better stuff for the same money leaving me thinking that i chose my equipment poorly. Here is what I have:
Panasonic CQ-C7401U Head Unit
5 1/4 Infinity Reference Components
3 Way 6x9 Infinity Reference
2 12 inch Infinity Reference Subs in individual 1 cubic foot sealed boxes
Profile AP 740 Amp
Profile AP 1200 Amp
I have not attatchment to any of this equipment, but I am trying to keep this project as cheap as possible. I basically just want any suggestions on what to do. Are there prodcts in the same price range that are significantly better than these or am i going to have to spend a lot more money to get better sound.
Also, the car I am looking to buy is a 1970 volvo. The alternator it comes with is tinnnyyyy. My friend works with cars a lot and says we can get pretty much any alternator in it with some modification. How many amps will i need with 1. this system, 2. the system I should by.
I've also heard about people running two batteries, one main, and one for the audio equipment. What are the advantages of this/ is it necessary?
Sorry for such a long post and such N00b questions. I'm jsut looking for some more knowledge before i go blow cash like I did last time
