ok i got a ticket this morning. everything started out bad this morning. i woke up late, got in my car and i really had no gas, i mean nothing! i was headed out of my neighborhood when i came around a turn and there was a city cop sitting off to the side of the road faced towards me. i looked down and i was going about 40mph where the speed limit is 25. he then pulled me over and gave me a ticket for speeding. he approached my window and asked for my license. i gave it to him and told him my story and then he went back to his car. he returned with my ticket that read 39mph in a 25 zone. so then i signed it and went on to school. after i got to shcool i started to fully read the ticket. i realized there were a couple thing i didnt understand. first, why didnt he ask me for my registration or insurance card and second, he wrote that my prelude was a 2001, but its a 1992. i dont know if i can challenge it for an invalid ticket but i might call a lawyer and see what he says. another thing that sucks was since it was in my neighborhood, there is a sign that says "$200 fine for speeding" so if i pay it i would have to pay the ticket cost and the $200 fine. so i want to know if u guys think i should challenge this in court since its my first ticket/offense?

any help is highly appreciated

go for it. what do you have to loose? if the cop doesn't show up, you win so do what you can. maybe he can right you up a different ticket. i got a speeding ticket once and went to court on it, and had it changed to an impeding traffic ticket which was 0 points vs. 2 points on a speeding ticket.

i think you could because he put the wrong year of the car on the ticket. but im not sure. my friend had the wrong last name written on his ticket and it got thrown out. and there is a pretty good chance that the cop will not even show up to court and in that case it gets thrown out

What are you fuk pies talking about the cop not showing up..

EVERY fuking city around here REQUIRES the cop to show up AND they get PAID EXTRA to do so...

Must be nice to live where you guys are..

well, IMO if he puts the wrong year for the car then i technically dont own a 2001 prelude correct, so the ticket isnt pertaining to me

the cops always show up here, you just hope they don't. it depends on where you live too. i live in a small town so of course they have nothing better to do, but in the city they may not show up.

Not gonna happen, you would be better off just going to defensive driving school and paying the 200 fine, or fight it waste money and piss the judge off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

99% of the time the judge will side with the cop. You were lucky, the cop actually did you a favor, you said you were doing 15 over the speed limit. In many states he can take you to jail and tow your car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Instead he gave you a break in a "residential" zone and you F'd up to begin with. Be a man, pay that shit.

how many pts do u guys think it will effect

be a man and fight to the death. my ticket was for 5 over but i was doing 71 in a 55 and i still fought it and got it changed. tell them you'll pay the ticket but don't want it as a speeding ticket. then you'll atleast get out of the $200 fine and save on insurance.

Same thing happened to me...over 80 on the freeway was reduced to 79 in a 65...over 15 in NC and VA is, IMO, reckless driving and endangerment instead of a simple speeding fine.

Face it - he busted you. 2001 Prelude or not, you're going to have to pay that. I also highly doubt the cop won't show - like someone said earlier, the state is in too much debt to have cops simply not show up for tickets.

If you get a lawyer, none at all - it simply causes an increase in your insurance. Without a lawyer, you'd need to consult VA DMV...I don't know off the top of my head.

Speaking of being a good driver...

Ever since I got my Expedition NO TICKETS...

My insurance a month now is only 191!! soo sweet!! When I had my Volvo and had tickets every other month insurance was 500...

Keep that record clean! I know what its like to have the fukin state take away your drivers license for 90 days.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
