I need advice on my amp setup!

To start this off, I'm a newbie when it comes to car audio and I just started doing research into it a few months ago. I'm going to try and make this as simple and clear as possible and hopefully somebody can help me out with this and give me some advice:

I drive a 97 Chevy Lumina, I've already replaced the back two factory speakers with some decent JL's and I plan on buying some good speakers for the front (not sure which kind yet).

I'm also going to be getting 2x 12'' Eclipse SW61248XD's subs from my cousin for free and also a Eclipse EA2000 2/1 Channel Amp with that also that I plan on using.

Specs on the Eclipse Subs:

o Model - SW61248XD

o Size (In.,CM) - 12, 30.5

o Impedance (OHMS) - 4 Dual Coil

o Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK / RMS) - 1000 / 500 watts

o Peak Power Handling - 1000 Watt

o Frequency Response - 28 Hz - 250 Hz

o Sensitivity - N/A

o Woofer Material - Aluminum

o Surround Material - Santoprene

o Top Mounting Depth - N/A

o Bottom Mounting Depth - N/A

o Mounting Diameter / Length - N/A

o Weight - 15lbs each

Specs on the Eclipse EA2000 2/1 Channel Amp:

o Digital Hybrid Power Capacitor

o 25 Farad

o Digitial Blue Display (Amperage/Voltage Meter)

o Blue LED Lights

o Low Profile Mounting System

o Chrome Mounting Brackets

o Working Voltage : 16DCV

o High current, high efficiency MOSFET power supply

o ?Easy Tune? top-mounted controls

o Sleek, low-profile design with front mounted input and output terminals

o Variable 30-500 Hz 18 dB high-pass crossover

o Variable 50-500 Hz 18 dB low-pass crossover

o Variable 0-8 dB Bass Boost

o Flush-mount wire terminals

o Illuminated Eclipse logo power indicator

o Clipping indicator LED

o Amplifier Type: 2-channel

o RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 60W x 2 @ 14.4V

o THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.05%

o Bridged RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 175W x 1 @ 14.4V

o Speaker Level Inputs: no

o Preamp Outputs: yes

o Built-In Crossovers: HP/LP

o Bass Boost: 18 dB

o Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz

o Signal to Noise Ratio: >90 dB

o Fuse Rating: 30 amps

Now my question is can that amp power both those subs nicely or would that not be enough? It's only a 2 channel amp so from what I understand I don't think it can really power BOTH the subs?

Would I be better off using the amp I already have to just power my front two speakers, then letting my back 2 speakers just run off the head unit, and then go out and buy a new (better) amp for the subs? If so what should I get and would this work?

Any idea on the setup would be nice, right now I'm trying to do research and find the best possible setup with what I already have. I'm willing to buy another amp if needed and maybe spend extra on whatever else would be needed.

Any help would be appreciated!

That amp isn't suitable for use with the subs you're getting it with. Not even one of them.

Yes, you'd be better off using that amp as amplification for your front stage and then getting another amp entirely to power those subwoofers.

Since they're Dual 4 Ohm voice coils and rated for 500w RMS you're going to want to look for an amp that will deliver 1,000w or so RMS at either a 1 Ohm or 4 Ohm nominal load.

Ahhh ok thanks, I figured that might be the case.

Do you have any suggestions as to the amp I should get that would help those subs produce to their max or somewhere close to it? And the amp should have 4 channels right?

Anybody have any suggestions on what amp I should get for my two 12'' Eclipse subs to make them sound good?

Reasonable price would be nice, but if something real expensive is what it takes then I'm up for it. Pretty much looking for the best bang for my buck to get my subs bumping nicely.

Any suggestions?

You'll need a mono (aka 1 channel), class D amp. Something that will do 1000 watts RMS (NOT peak) at 1 ohm.
A 1 channel Class D amp with 1000 Watts would supply BOTH subs nicely?

I thought since I have two subs I need to have at least 2 channels? But 1 works? Does it get bridged or something?

Sorry, I'm not very experienced when it comes to this stuff lol.

the best way to power your subs would be to get a Class D amp with 1 channel, and that would definitly power the subs very nicely. Look for an amp that powers the subs at 1 ohm at around 1000 rms. Also, just because you buy two subs does not necessarily mean you mean a two channel amp, and yes the two channel amp would get bridged. The two channel amps are just another way to wire your subs, and using the mono channel which is what you should buy usually works best for powering subs.

I have an Orion D2400 BNIB w/2 year warranty1200 w rms @ 1 ohm

800 @ 2

$275 shipped. Should work fine with your setup.
Ah ok, I'll look into that Orion. You have any advice as to where I should order it from online?

btw, thanks for the help people!
