I had to max out the gain, + add some bass boost to reach RMS?

So I got my DMM out tonight to set my gain on my Kenwood amp. It's a 500w@2ohms RMS amp. I turned my HU to 3/4 volume, and put on a 50hz test tone. I unhooked my sub and put the DMM to the amp. I put it on AC volts, and turned up the gains slowly. I needed to get it to 31.?? because I wanted 500w RMS @ 2 ohms. With the gain maxed out, I reached 21. I turned up the bass boost about halfway, and I eventually reached 31-32 on the DMM. What is wrong? Everything sounds fine, but I'm surprised my gain is maxed out + some bass boost.

cant expect max out of the amp ... u have impedence rise and voltage to take into consideration... back off the bass boost and back that gain down to around 3/4 and see where ur at u are prolly clipping the shit out of that amp.... may have more A/C volts but i bet the sub will be the same loudness without the bass boost and gains backed down..... ur just getting alot of disortion right now

it sounds good, I don't hear any clipping, and the amp stayed really cool. It's the stock HU btw.

stock hu has prolly less then 1v output go get a 360.2 or cleansweep

Underrated means makes more power then advertised power.

Many companys overrate their amps to sell the big numbers.

thanks brotha!...some dude was telling me a shit load of crap today about my system in my TB...he was telling me that my amps and subs were over rated and blah blah.....he was getting me confused but laugh at the same time...haha....
