I Finally Heard The W7 Prof Installed

iv built a lot of killer vented boxes for 8w7's . id say thoes are my favorite 8 inch woofers.

Cerious, what box did you like the best?? I've debated trying some other designs but I don't want to waste a lot of money on MDF.

there where under powering it, listen to one installed right with around 1000-1200 watts going to it and i promise you will change your idea about them.

2.5" of excursion with very low thd and almost no woofer noise, free air? w7's are expensive, but they are still easily one of the best drivers on the market, especially in the area of "SQL"

why are you quoting me in this post? i STRONGLY disagree it being the "best on the market", but thats just my oppinion. i have personally been louder than W7's in similar installs, while simultaneously being judged as sounding better than them with the woofers that i had. i personally think the woofers i had sounded better, and i know they were louder. and thats not to knock the dub, ive already spoken my piece about them, they arent bad drivers, just not my cup of tea.

and as for no woofer noise, what frequency is it where there is the audible thumping and huffing coming from the speaker?

why should company lower their prices if the product sells? kinda stupid if you ask me.

no one has asked them to lower prices. they have found their niche in the market, and peole will continue to pay what they are asking. but for those willing to investigate a bit more and make an educated decision, they can find that there is stuff that rivals the performance for less.

IIRC they were throwing 20hz tones on them free-air testing for noises, comparing them to a brahma.

i thought i remembered someone reviewing it and they found that at some freq it was making a huffing noise.

i could be mistaken though, but im pretty sure of it

We just got done installing (2) 13W7's running off a Zapco 9.0 in a Cut-through, w/8.0cu^ft, 100sq^in ported enclosure tuned @ 32Hz.

It is unbelievably loud. Seriously.

w7 subs are good in ported and sealed boxes...they **** in bandpass boxes ..thats one of the few subs i would never put in that kind of box

its not about making a decision. i never considered running jl. not just because of the price, but just because i never had the desire.

i dont care if they were underpowering them. i didnt like the way they sound in both cars.

today i went to a fairly "high end shop". they tried to sell me shit, but i was just there looking.
they have 2 demo car. both have w7's.

the first car. a PT CRUISER. it had one 10 ported pushed by a 500/1 they had a bunch of components that made the highs sound really good.

as far as output.............no way. not worth the money.

2nd car was a honda accord. ive owned the same car. mine didnt look as good but i had one. it had 4 10 w7 sealed pushed by 2 1000/1. NO WAY.

dont get me wrong. it sound good and got very low actually it sound great. but i was not blown away like i hear alot of guys describe them.

my boys solo 1 15" solobaric sound just as good, to me anyway. the l7 had more output than both systems. he paid 275 for the l7 and he had a kicker kx 1200 refurb in a ported box tuned to 37. my boys highs werent nearly as good but. he did have a big *** box.

jl has to lower their prices. soon folks will wise and spend less on better products.
