I backed into someone yesterday.

Went to the post office yesterday to ship out something audio related, and I backed into a ****ing car.

First time i've hit anything in my >two years of driving...dont know what the hell I was thinking, just backed out of my spot without looking at all. Yes I know, im retarded. I drive a stick car and I couldnt get it into reverse for some reason, so when I finally did I was mad and just backed up.

The car I hit was an 06 rav4. From the looks of it, id say theyre going to need a new rear bumper but thats it.

So for the people involved with car repair or knowing about this stuff- how much should I expect it to cost? I was thinking somewhere around 500-1000. Im pretty sure im going to pay for this one out of pocket rather than going through insurance.

Sucks thinking about all the audio stuff I could have had for that money...I think im going to sell what I have now to get some money to pay for this. But at least I only hit another car...coulda been a person or worse, so in that sense im pretty lucky.

The Rav4 is a small size SUV right? Colormatched bumper?

If it is, you're in the ballpark on price.

I'd say no less than $300 for the bumper and probably around the same to paint it.

Yea I was going to say $800. I did the same exact thing. backed into a truck and cracked my own bumper. Luckily didn't do any damage to the truck but it was my dads car and he wanted his bumper fixed so I had to pay out of pocket. Sucked.

Its not even worth it. If you've got a $500 deductible, you're only saving $300 plus your rates go up. So its a wash basically.

Go buy one for the person at a junkyard and take out the 10 plastic christmas tree clips that hold it on and put it on for them.

How does that work? I was assuming I had to go through the shop etc to get it done. I know how to do some car work, iv'e taken off multiple car's bumpers before, but I thought they would want it done "professionally."

And yes, i'd rather just pay the 800 than pay my 500$ deductable plus insurance rise....
