HU for a serious SQL system

For Double Din and processor the Alpine W202, W302, W505 with the H701 processor is almost impossible to beat.

If you decide togo with the W505 you will need a speical optical cable made be panasonic (that is not longer made.) Alpine has not release their cable yet. It is a 4 pin to Toslink optical cable, the W505 has the 4 pin optical out on the back. If you decide to go with the W505 you can buy the cable from partstore.com it is the CA-LRD60EX (its not cheap, I paid 112.00 shipped for mine)

Listen to this man.

I used the DVA-9861 running optical to the H701 and used the C701 for control. I don't think you can beat this system. It doesn't have a built in screen, but you could always just buy a standalone screen and run the video output from the 9861. I just sold that complete set for around $800 since I'm switching vehicles, so you can definitely find it in your price range.

You are not going to find what you want in a 1.5 din. Just mount a single din unit in there and fill up the space with blank panel or a pocket. No sense sacrificing function for form. Honestly I hate the way in dash screens look anyway, fold out or not. I had one for about a week and couldn't take the ridiculous glow while driving at night (not to mention most of the interfaces look pretty terrible and video up front is rather unnecessary).

My mistake, I meant 1 DIN.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Yeah, I like the looks of the Alpines. Seem to have lots of options, and not as expensive as they are made out to be (at least not compared to Eclipse, even though the Eclipse model has the HDD and NAV).//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ive gotta Bronco, so ive never had a double DIN. How hard would it be to put one in my 1.5 DIN. Think itd even be worth it???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Here's my opinion. Units like the 9861, 880PRS, DRZ9255, etc. don't need all that navigation/hdd/screens/graphics bullshit because they are build for sound not gimmicks and they've got the SQ part nailed. Want a GPS, get a Garmin for $150 and it will be a better unit. Need a lot of music on hand, just hook an ipod up to the alpine decks. Need a screen up front...you don't.

I know I sound like an old grumpy man (I'm 25), but that's how I see it. All that non-audio crap is useless and nothing more than a marketing ploy to attract stupid teens who want to feel like their car is better than their friend's.

It would not be worth it. I'm sure it can be done, but unless there is a pre-fab piece out there by Metra or someone, it will be a decent amount of work to get the double din installed and even more work to make it look good.

I don't think you gain anything with the double din. My car had a double din space and I elected to use the top space for the 9861 and the bottom for the C701. If you wanted to do something similar you could just mount the C701 somewhere else like the glovebox, center console, etc since it is relatively shallow.

Yeah, this was out of curiosity only. Ive never seen it done, and wanted to know if anyone would actually have a reason for it. Never personally had a desire for it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

you should quit pretending to give a shit about SQ and just admit you want to look cool to your friends while sounding decent.

hehe, I knew as soon as I started bringing up screens this crap was gonna happen.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Listen bro, I'm 27 and married. I dont give a flying **** about impressing anyone but my wife. I've owned regular units my whole life, but 2 years ago I broke down and put a pioneer in dash DVD with a DD processor in my Silverado. For the first time, I found myself enjoying scrolling thru the menus and tweaking all the features (which I was surprised were quite effective). It was the first HU I was never fustrated with. Menus were clearly laid out and easy to touch and navigate. That system was also the best sounding one I had heard in a long time. Another big reason is I own alot of live concerts on DVD (Slipknot live in London is one of my favorites). I can't tell you how many times I've sat waiting in my car and enjoyed a live concert or movie scene.

Oh, and dont even get me started on what I, or anyone else, NEEDS. Get some perspective man seriously!!!! This is car audio, and it is all NEEDLESS. Some guys run 8 x 1500W Subs because they're going for SPL; Some guys run fiber optics, 32 band EQs, and all that because theyre going for SQ- I doubt you could seriously justify the NEED for either. You're setup is in a CAR!!! I. E. basically the worst environment for quality audio (you're sitting in the front left corner, right next to one of the speakers, nothing is really in front of you, and in most cases-at least for the bass- is behind you. Not to mention this environment is suspended over rubber wheels and fliying around at 60+ MPH.)

Seriously, does your cell phone have a camera? Ill bet it does, and how needless is that? A basic phone can cost hundreds less than a upgraded high res camera phone, and with that difference you could just buy a digital camera which will perform MUCH better (sound familiar anyone?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif).

But I really started this train of thought when I threw out the term "audiophile" somewhere in the first few threads. No, I am not looking for a recording studio on wheels. I just wanna get some high SQ. Ive heard SPL and its cool for about a week, and then its old (same with cutt off exhausts and all that crap).I am not looking to impress anyone sitting in the passenger seat, cuz honestly, I never play music at loud volumes unless its by myself. I feel thats a little inconsiderate.

Im not critisizing you at all. You obviously take SQ extremely seriously, and that is all you are concerned about. Go for it, if that is what makes you happy. I want more from my HU that JUST SOUND. I want to enjoy the HU too. Im spending God knows how much on the rest of my system, whats wrong with wanting a little more out of the HU? Some good graphical displays or an on screen EQ that I can adjust without having to select each band individually, all while still having excellent SQ. Thinking that anyone who doesnt prioritize anything the way you do is ignorance in its true form, and all of us on here should be better than that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can you post a picture of the dash so I can see want looks like, so I can see how hard it will be to make a DD fit. Seeing the way you feel about I.C.E I still say one of the Apline Double Din W units with the H701. Or as recommand above the DVA-9861 with a stand alone screen and the H701.

Or just keep your AVH-P5700 and buy somthing like a Audio Control DQL-8, Rockford 360.2, find a PPI DQX-730, or the Apline H701 with the C701(controller I thinks thats the model number) and save yourself some money.

Well I dont really wanna go thru the hastle of installing a double DIN.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Ill put up some pics at the end of the month when I get home, but judging from the design, it will be DIFFICULT.

Im selling the entire setup that Ive got listed in my sig and starting from scratch. For one, alot of that stuff is well over 2 years old (some is over 5). I really want to design a system from the ground up. To me, designing, researching, and installing (and learning tons in the process) is half the fun:thumbsup:.

Just looking for reccommendations in dash DVD units, although I havent really looked at the DVA-9861 with a stand alone screen option.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

BTW dont take my last post too seriously, mostly just venting. Besides everyones got their opinions. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
