Here's my opinion. Units like the 9861, 880PRS, DRZ9255, etc. don't need all that navigation/hdd/screens/graphics bullshit because they are build for sound not gimmicks and they've got the SQ part nailed. Want a GPS, get a Garmin for $150 and it will be a better unit. Need a lot of music on hand, just hook an ipod up to the alpine decks. Need a screen up front...you don't. I know I sound like an old grumpy man (I'm 25), but that's how I see it. All that non-audio crap is useless and nothing more than a marketing ploy to attract stupid teens who want to feel like their car is better than their friend's. It would not be worth it. I'm sure it can be done, but unless there is a pre-fab piece out there by Metra or someone, it will be a decent amount of work to get the double din installed and even more work to make it look good. I don't think you gain anything with the double din. My car had a double din space and I elected to use the top space for the 9861 and the bottom for the C701. If you wanted to do something similar you could just mount the C701 somewhere else like the glovebox, center console, etc since it is relatively shallow.
