how's this subwoofer setup?

I want to get a sub setup for my 89 montero (looks exactly like a land rover discovery but not fancy). I'm going to get a used setup to save money. I'm want something that's clean but also hits hard, I want to easily be able to fill my car with sound if I want.

I was looking at this setup on craigslist and wanted to know what you guys think. The things I;n worried about are, the 8" woofers won't be very, I don't really know anything about Sony amps but have heard they are bad. Also the price seems way to high but maybe I'm wrong. This is my first sub setup so any info would be appreciated.

Looks like a pair of 8w0's, and who cares what that amp is its an XPLOD lol.

How much are you tryin to spend? I'm sure you could find a better sub/amp combo for $250 than that...

yeah that's what I was thinking. I actually found a pair of JL 10w3 with a JL e1400d amp in a JL box a few weeks ago for $250 and really wish I had bought it, but I just wasn't in the position to buy a setup them.

If I bought the 8" ones I wouldn't pay $250. I'm assuming xplods are really bad? $250 is my max.

I'm guessing the subs are JL 8w0 or 8w1 models installed in a prefab JL enclosure.

I like JL products (haven't had any experience with Sony but have read the same opinions you have) but I wouldn't recommend this setup in a Montero. With that kind of interior space you may not get the output you're looking for out of those subs. I also don't like the fact that the seller can't give you any more information on them.

With the kind of room you have in the Montero, I would look at a single twelve or a pair of 12's. If your handy with tools, building a box is pretty easy and will save you money over buying a prefab box.

the amp is a 500 watt extreme amp, I haven't heard of that brand, is it good?

I would advise you to buy your used equipment in the For Sale forum here instead of Craigslist. I think you can get better for your money that way. Just make sure you check out the buyer first and make sure of their references

I can't really find any sub setups on here. I was looking to get a sub,box and amp all in one deal. Also I would have to pay shipping here. On craigslist I can go look at it and make sure it works.

pick an amp and sub combo seperately....build your own box...

save yourself the trouble.
