How To Set My "Turn Dials" With This Set-Up

What should the knobs be set at on the amp with this set up?

Amp:

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000-1bd

Sub:

Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD210

Head Unit:

Pioneer AVH-P2400BT

Thanks for your help!

Use an online tutorial. Set the amp output voltage (per channel) using speaker RMS (not the rated power of the amp). sqrt(Watts x ohms) = Voltage Output. Try bcae1.com for all car audio electronics reference.

dont use the bass boost. set the gain with a DMM. as said above use the RMS wattage spec from the speaker unless it is more than the amp is rated for. The formula converts the wattage the speaker is rated for into Volts that can be read using a DMM. For setting subs us a 50Hz test tone with the head unit set to 75% of max volume and then don't turn it up past that.

Can you set this without a test tone? Some kid is helping my buddy out and says he don't need it cause he's installed enough that he just knows. Is this a valid statement? Not my system though so if it gets screwed up... So be it. I will forward your advice to my friend though.

0db 50Hz test tone

He was asking about "turn dials". You really think he understood anything you just said? Lol! OP get a DMM and learn how to use it. Then use a subwoofer wiring diagram to wire up your sub. I assume you have no idea what 2 ohm dual voice coil subwoofer means? They're got a pretty good wiring diagram at Crutchfield.com and it'll show how to wire your 2 ohm sub to 4 ohm. If you wire it down to 1 ohm you'll blow it with that amp. Then go to the tutorials here and follow them on how to set your amp. If you jump right in your either going to fry your subs or fry your amp.... Take your time and do it right. Or there will be smoke in your future.

NO! Point in question now is can this be done without a 50Hz test tone? I'm currently supervising this kid work and I don't want him to mess up what my friend just spent $1000 on. I don't have the time for a couple days to help him so he seeked the help of someone else. I admittedly do not know much but I could have learned online.

Can this be done without a test tone?

Well with this set up my friend ended up wiring it as follows: it is to our understanding that this is a mono amp as well. They ran a positive and negative cable from each sub straight to the terminals on the amp. So four speaker wires total running into the amp (2 subs)... To my understanding this is the wrong way to wire. He says it works and he ain't messing with it and "I worry too much". If this is in fact wired wrong what's the negative side effects of what he did?
