How shitty was your first system?

Road gear head unit

Jensen Amp

Road gear 10 in a fullrange box, with all the extra full range stuff removed. So it was just full of holes. Good times.

I was lovin it, but looking back now I couldnt imagine how I could even hear anything with that.

thsi was back in '92...radio shack head unit with auxiliary sony discman for cd's though a tape adapter...jensen 2 channel amp on 2 kenwood truck boxes 10", jensen 6x9's in boxes on teh back shelf, some kind of components in the doors and one of those powered equalizer/amp deals to run those. wow! oh yeah, i didnt' know i had to use larger power wire for the amps, so i just ran 14g. wire for power and ground!

one day a buddy said why is your wire so small and i said i didn't know it made a dfference. told me to get som e 8g. i got the 8g, installed it and it sounded like i had a ****ing huge amp in there!

lol...

I almost got to a good start:

1986 Renault LeCar 1300cc with 80's Pioneer Tape unit (all analog), Pioneer amp (same size as the HU, fitted right under), Front Pioneer paper cone Coax & rear 6"X9". It was quite nice for 1988 but shortly before I got my license, !@#$%^ car thief pulled the system out of our driveway...

Started a long series of many systems designed to look like crap attempting not to sound like it...

I sold the LeCar & got a 74" Landcruiser. It came with an SPL system...could hit something like 140db with the factory AM radio... most of it road and engine noise from the lack of proper insulation...no rubber between the motor & you...all metal. No place to put speakers. The widows were just pieces of plastic that slided so anybody with fingers could get into the car by pulling down on them...

I found an ancient Blaupunkt receiver in a Yard. It had 3 bands (maybe SW?), AM & FM. The reception was acually good but it fitted poorly so I had to hold it when pressing the buttons. The tape unit was a Clarion, No Autoreverse, all mechanical 3WX2 mounted on a detachable plate.

I bought a small baffle at a roadside car audio place & put a generic 6" with a generic mylar tweeter (cap included) attached to the bottom of the glove compartment. It fired down...

Some day I will get another FJ40 and rebuild it...but the sound system will be a challenge for sure. Maybe this time I will actually be able to distinguish the music from the road nose...

my first was a pioneer 3400

2 kicker L7 10s, the first year they released the squares.

kicker zr 240

pioneer 4x6s all the way around

got a truck box cut sheet from kicker, and me and my mom built the boxes =)

i've came a LONG way since then

I don't know whether you can call it ghetto or not, but it sure does look a lot better than the installs I do now:laugh: Now I care more about performance than looks.

I had a kenwood 4028 for a HU, some flea markey pro acoustic amp rated at 1600w peak for a 10" L5. sony 6.5's in the front with factory tweeters in place. Kenwood 4" rear speakers. And I thought I was cool. Now I got an Clarion dxz955mc, a kx600.4 with polk comps and some w6's with no box or amp.

I am showing my age here.. but my first system was as follows...

Black Magic Amp

Pyle Sup with a foam Passive radiator thing

Sherwood deck

Audio Art door speakers in the front

Some boxed rear deck speakers that did not have a name

I really improved things when I added the Concord Amp that drained my battery it took 90 amps to run it.. funny
