I almost got to a good start: 1986 Renault LeCar 1300cc with 80's Pioneer Tape unit (all analog), Pioneer amp (same size as the HU, fitted right under), Front Pioneer paper cone Coax & rear 6"X9". It was quite nice for 1988 but shortly before I got my license, !@#$%^ car thief pulled the system out of our driveway... Started a long series of many systems designed to look like crap attempting not to sound like it... I sold the LeCar & got a 74" Landcruiser. It came with an SPL system...could hit something like 140db with the factory AM radio... most of it road and engine noise from the lack of proper insulation...no rubber between the motor & you...all metal. No place to put speakers. The widows were just pieces of plastic that slided so anybody with fingers could get into the car by pulling down on them... I found an ancient Blaupunkt receiver in a Yard. It had 3 bands (maybe SW?), AM & FM. The reception was acually good but it fitted poorly so I had to hold it when pressing the buttons. The tape unit was a Clarion, No Autoreverse, all mechanical 3WX2 mounted on a detachable plate. I bought a small baffle at a roadside car audio place & put a generic 6" with a generic mylar tweeter (cap included) attached to the bottom of the glove compartment. It fired down... Some day I will get another FJ40 and rebuild it...but the sound system will be a challenge for sure. Maybe this time I will actually be able to distinguish the music from the road nose...
