How many watts rms is safe to push to a 12w7?

I want a 2200 watt amp but don't know if that's too much for one 12w7 subwoofer or not.

And if that's too much is 1200 enough?

Well figure the 12w7 is 3 ohm and the AQ 2200d is 740 at 14 volts at 4ohm and 1300 at 2 ohm give or take

Can't i turn the amp down too so it won't be pumping it all the way?

wire the W7 down to 1.5 ohms. Buy the 1200 watt amp and you should be about right. If the amp does a true 1200 watts

Single 3 ohm

ahhhhhhh...... my bad, lot of choices on amps. Look for one that does alteast 2000 rms @ 1 ohm

The 8, 10 and 12 are single 3 ohm (really work out to close to a 4 ohm load) and the 13 is a dual 1.5.

To the OP the difference between 700 and 1200 is not going to be very much on that sub because of power compression.
