How long should it take to build a very nice custom box?

Let's say 4 cubes, slot ported, double baffle, 45's, roundovers, kerf ports, the whole 9.

Material birch or mdf.

Glueing and screwing, sanding and finishing, patching and painting or carpeting.

Reason I'm asking is it's taking me entirely too long to make any money at it.

BTW painting is LOT more time consuming than carpet.

depends what tools you have, first off. Then, painted takes more time than carpeted..and should have a higher price tag as well (you get what you pay for). I also don't believe in screws. Good glue and brad nails are more than enough..though they can get in the way of a router bit...Just depends what you're doing and what you're charging.

If you have all the tools youcan do it in an afternoon, cutting the wood on the table saw is really quick and putting it together with glue and screws is really quick

Painting would be the only thing that takes some time

^^^^^ well first off count up all the materials you use, than make an estimate of how many hours it would take to complete the box. charge like $10-$15 per hour, not many people can build a nice box, and most certainly don't have the tools.

i bought a cheap $20 nail gun and so i just pop pop to hold it while glue dries. way faster than screws and no wood splitting
Same thing I did. If it breaks I'll buy another one and it will still be cheaper than buy expensive one.

One thing I do when building boxes for local people is I try to have other things to do while building box. So when the glue/paint is drying I'm usually working on my truck or car. Or I do multiple boxes builds at once. Mine usually take maybe 4-5 hours tops but take 2 days if I'm painting. Especially since I let the glue cure for at least 12 hours.

That is why I have a PS3 and 360 were I build boxes along with a nice home theater setup lol...

Depends on how much weed you smoke and how long you spend spacing out and tripping out over the measurments. Then depends on how many times you cut the wrong line, Then you have to wait for the glue to dry. Make sure you pre drill your holes if you are using screws, otherwise you will blow out the sides.
