How long should it take a qualified installer to.....

It would probably take me a day...but I would take my time and be anal about everything, not moving on until something is just right to me. Shops don't take that same amount of time, not when there are more customers waiting...but they also tend to put jobs on the back burner sometimes; so a job that takes a few hours might be slated for another day.

most places would suggest you drop it off for the whole day, but on ave I have known most places to do a install like that and charge for 4-6 hrs. Alot will depend on your car etc and how easy it is to run and hide the stuff. But there not going to do it in 1 hr and charge you for 1hr most likely it will take 2-3 hrs and they will charge you for around 4-6 hrs.

It is a 1990 Mercedes 300 SE. I was told 9-10 hours. Nothing is custom. The sub comes from Alpine prebuilt in a box. The work hasn't been done yet. They installed my HU last week and did a good job. I just want to know if this estimate is within the ballpark...especially at $90 per hour.

There is absolutely NO WAY I would pay $900 to have that stereo installed. Honestly, most shops (in my area, atleast) charge a standard rate for those types of installs....for example; $125 for an amp install, $65 for front speakers, $45 for rear speakers, etc etc.

But, regardless....that setup is IMHO not going to be worth $900 in install charges, especially if it is just going to be your basic drop-in installation with no custom fabrication of any kind. I honestly would talk to some other local shops and see what their charges would be.....cause it sounds like your going to get shafted by this place. I honestly wouldn't dish out more than ~$250 or so for that simple of an install.

I mean it isn't definite. I asked him for a package deal and he said $1500 installed. He then said the equip would cost $1000 and it would take 9-10 hours to install, but he wouldn't charge me for the whole time. I can get the gear for under $700 elsewhere. I want to ask how much to just install the gear if I buy it somewhere else, but I don't want to get stuck with the 9-10 hours line. I wanted to be able to try and negotiate, and have a clue about what I am talking about! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif If the price was for custom work, I would be down with it.

your in nyc go to other shops there ripn you a new azz. And 700 imho is alot for that stuff as well. Look online and get the stuff and meet up with a shop on LI and have it done there then, or some people off here that do the stuff on the side. Seeing how its not custom work beeing done just running the wires and the comps etc.

If they charge that much an hour let me see their website, if they charge that much an hour the owner should be smart enough to put a website with pictures.

The 90 dollar an hour job what the website the 125 an hour what is his website?
