How good is a JL Audio 10W7 in a Power Wedge enclosure?

I think that he was referring to production issues and for the most part he is right, you have a beter chance of getting a screwed up RE or Adire than you do JL. However I am willing to take that chance since most places will fix the issue for free.

I have loved all my W7's but on this board they aren't the flavor of the month I have learned. I can tell you it is a GREAT sub.
there a big reason why it was turned down on this thread

680 DOLLARS IS MURDER FOR 1 10"

i kinda dissagree... (w7= ear candy) very pleasing sub by itself like your planning ...yes lt will give you that sound you are lookin for.. don't get the prefab box... if you can make one yourself you'll be saving at least a 100 bucks... and with that amp you shouldn't have to worry about blowing it with the 12 or 13 you should be careful with a 10 though... they are expensive though... if you can afford it they are worth it... alot of off brand(not mainsteam companies) are not as consistant in their production and you have a better chance of getting a lemon esspecially online because alot of times you got to think... "if someone really likes the product why are they selling it"... good chance to get a bad product online
^idiot, dont listen to this kid.

IMO if you want a w7, get it and very good sub, but for that price thats disgusting. Serch ebay and other forums, hopefully find a better deal. If not there are several other subs out there that will be on par or better than a w7.

Good luck on your serch

I am about to get flammed but maybe most guys on this forum dont have much money to spend or most in this thread. I am not saying a W7 is the best thread because I can be honest and say I haven't heard many subs as some of the many guys on this forum and yes a W7 is expensive but you never hear they **** you hear there is just as good for less money. What I like is they are a company that has a very proven track record and make a great product. I agree it is pricey and yes there maybe as good or better subs for the money but I can tell you as I have owned them they are very good subs he did ask if they were pricey the fact is they are a good sub.

One more note in 4 years I have never had a problem with any of my JL products so I don't know how there customer service is because the product has never let me down though my Goodyears let me down tonight with a flat. Thank god for runflats.

Ive seen one 10W7 do 150db in a bandpass box. He won first place street A. Going against two 10's and 12's. I think that says something, I didn't get metered yet though but when I get my sub ported I'll give him a run for his money.

What you think is irrelavent. 90% of SPL performance is in the enclosure.

Yes, the W7 is a good sub. However there are several problems with this guy getting one.

1) Price: There are several woofers out there that will give you the same level of performance for half the price or less. (TC3000, Fi Q, SI Mag, etc.)

2) It is harder to make a W7 sound good than it is for many other subs. You can get very nice output and quality with a W7, but (from what I've read) it requires more than your standard ported or sealed box.

3) The 10W7 is not compatible with his amplifier. The amp puts out 1000w at 1 ohm, 500w at 2 ohms. The W7 has a single 3-ohm Voice Coil, meaning that he would only be sending it around 400w. He'd be wasting the amplifier on this sub

My suggestion is to go with a 12" Stereo Integrity Mag D2. These are VERY nice woofers and can be had for $250 and up, cepending on where you look. Do a search on these and you'll see that the Mag is an amazing sub. Many people on here have run them with great success. They have great output and sound quality. You will not be disappointed.

your an idiot. the only thing i even come close to agreeing with you on is dont get the prefab box... w7=far from ear candy... unless you like boomy, hollow sounding subs... (although sq is subjective) some of the "off brand" subs are leages above the w7.. fi are decent drivers. i agree with the q suggested earlier , although i would actually recommend a tc3000 above the fi. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
EDIT: dammit- beaten by a minute

Only bad thing about the TC-3000 is the quad 2 ohm coils....you'll only get a 2 ohm load from that. (or 0.5 of course)

I happen to like how the w7 sound, but that's subjective of course, as you said.

When my truck arrives if for some reason I don't go with W7's I am going to try the Mag D2's. I hope that isn't a mistake but I can go with 12's over 10W7's if I go that route.

x2 i never heard of any jl being bad... only people being dumbasses and screwing them up with installs... (almost) any sub can be made to sound decent.. same way any sub can be made to sound bad if you go with jl's specifications you'll love it... the guy who said the w7's sound quality sucks has either never heard one or he's deaf...

edit: yeah the power is an issue if you want to keep that amp i'd go for something in a 2 ohm dvc... if you want to stick with jl i'd consider 2 10 or 12 w6's they'd love the amp and the box is less cubic ft than one w7 and you'd probably get more volume out of it than the single w7

quite possibly the most rediculous thing i've heard today... if thats the case go by ya some lightning audio or some X-plode hell you'd even be good with some duals haha "you can make them just as good as a w7 with the right enclosure" some people just should not have anything to do with posting in a car audio forum
