How good is a JL Audio 10W7 in a Power Wedge enclosure?

I am thinking about getting one JL Audio 10W7 in a power wedge enclosure for my 2006 Chevy Cobalt. I still want trunk space and I think this subs is the loudest for that small of a space. Can someone please tell me that the $680 I am about to pay for this 10W7 is actually worth it?....oh yeah and I will be powering with this one sub with a Memphis 16-PRD1.1000 Amp....will it the bass actually hit? Any input is greatly appreciated.

You can get a much better setup for the money. First off, if you want JL, get a W6. They are a better all around woofer than the W7 from what I've heard. Also, ditch any thoughts of a prefab box and build or buy a custom enclosure. There are hundreds of options out there, so don't gravitate towards the mainstream stuff right away. First off, what are your goals with this system, and how much can you spend total?

Well I am trying to take up "half" of my trunk space which is about 14" Width of a box. I want the best, tight, good bass thats sounds bigger then it is and I want it the loudest I can from a small enclosure. I am looking to spend no more then $700 and I already have an amp so that price is just for a sub and box. My amp is a Memphis 12-PRD1.1000 Class D Mono-Amp and pretty good. Thanks for all the replies people!

Measure out your trunk and post up some dimensions. I would go with a single 10" ported. Maybe like a DD 3510. Those sound pretty decent and all DDs can get respectably loud. Or maybe two Diamond Audio D3 tens sealed. Both options would fall well within your price range, and should fulfill your goals nicely.

TC Sounds makes awesome subs (They actually build all of Eclipse's subs). Very nice sound quality for a decent price. A W7s are good subs, but they are expensive and there are tons of options out there. Even if you can find a decent price on a W7, it will have no warranty, because it won't be authorized. Plus, JLs are neither cheap nor easy to get fixed. Go with something from a company like TC Sounds, Fi Car Audio, Digital Design Audio, etc. These companies may not be mainstream, but they offer awesome products at good prices (The DDs are a little high compared to the others), and they have really good customer service (especially Fi).

Once again, W7s are good woofers. However, you can get the same level of performance for much less money, without the risk of getting a product without warranty.

I just picked up a Fi Q 12 for my ride, should be on it's way soon. The sub is more or less comparable to the W7 in terms of output and sound quality.

You can get a new 10" Q which will LOVE that amp and give it a full 1000 watts, for $249 shipped.

I think you will be very happy with the Q if you're considering a W7. You'll save money and get better performance, especially for the dollar.

i kinda dissagree... (w7= ear candy) very pleasing sub by itself like your planning ...yes lt will give you that sound you are lookin for.. don't get the prefab box... if you can make one yourself you'll be saving at least a 100 bucks... and with that amp you shouldn't have to worry about blowing it with the 12 or 13 you should be careful with a 10 though... they are expensive though... if you can afford it they are worth it... alot of off brand(not mainsteam companies) are not as consistant in their production and you have a better chance of getting a lemon esspecially online because alot of times you got to think... "if someone really likes the product why are they selling it"... good chance to get a bad product online

your an idiot. the only thing i even come close to agreeing with you on is dont get the prefab box... w7=far from ear candy... unless you like boomy, hollow sounding subs... (although sq is subjective) some of the "off brand" subs are leages above the w7.. fi are decent drivers. i agree with the q suggested earlier , although i would actually recommend a tc3000 above the fi. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
