How do you wire two 10" subs?

I'm building my first system and I'm trying to decide between a single 12" and two 10" subs. I like the look of two 10" subs but I've been told to just buy a nicer, single 12" instead. If I go with the 10" double, would I need to buy an amp for each one? Or would a single amp work just as well? Would the single amp need to be a lot more powerful (and more expensive) to sufficiently power the two 10"s? Really need some help here

really depends on what subs you go with. but yes, you can run 2 subs off one amp.

Two tens will out perform a single twelve on the same power, assuming they're comparable subs (for example two Alpine Type R 10s vs a Type R 12) because of the difference in cone area. They typically can take more power as well, as a lot of companies use the same mechanical parts for all their subs within a line (the same motor in the 8" through 18" subs). With two subs you have twice the sub to power. That means you'd need a more powerful amp to reach their full potential, but you don't need to max them out provided you feed them clean power.

I was between a single TC Sounds Epic 12" and two subs of lesser value, in this case I was looking at these Pioneer Champion Series 10".

The two 10"s are a lot cheaper than the 12" because I didn't know what to do for powering them.

The Epic will have a little better sound quality over the Soundqubed subs, but the Soundqubed subs will be louder. And mine sound good to me. Make sure to put whatever you get in a custom box, not prefab. Makes a world of difference.

Did you make your own box? How would I go about getting a custom enclosure? Also, still need help with an amp. Does your Hifonics BRZ1700 do the trick?

You have to look at the specs. The HDS2 series subs take 600 watts RMS and they're offered in multiple coil configurations. You'll want an amp that does 600W RMS at the right impedance. If you've got two of them you'll want to double the wattage you need so you can max out the pair. The HDS3 series take twice the power and does twice the output. They're 1200W RMS each and they cost twice as much accordingly. 1200W is towards the limits of what stock electrical electrical can put out. If you're keen on two tens then go with what cjm86 suggested. I was going to suggest the same, but I was away. If you're not looking for as much output go with the one twelve in that line. It's more powerful than the ten, but not as powerful as a pair. If you want something that'll be closer to the pair, go with the HDS312.

SQ's Q1-1200D does 1200W RMS at 1 ohm. So if you get a pair, you can get either dual 4 ohm coils or dual 2 ohm, but if you get a single sub and want to wire to one ohm, be sure it's a dual 2 ohm. Let us know what car you're using so we can assess where your limit is. If you want loud bass without splitting your skull or worrying about being able to power it, get a 600RMS 12 and a used amp. You can get the amp for under $125 shipped around here (maybe not the soundqubed)
