******* autocorrect..

What's the best way to set gains with nothing more than a DMM?

There are so many tutorials online that the information is different amongst each tutorial.

Please provide a link the the most creditable method using only a DMM. Thanks.

Amp will be Poweraccusik ADF-420 using two 6.5 Alpine Type-R's (2 ohm load per channel) just for the time being.

Sorry I cant help, my mom has always been the one to set it with me.

Well, the one I've used is this one:

why even use a DMM when you are using a power acoustik amp, which is known to false advertise its power ratings. If you dont know the correct power levels the amp is capable of producing, then you can't figure out how high the target voltage should be when using a DMM.

Makes sense. Yeah I bought the amp for $20 to use for 2 weeks until my Alpine comes in. Figured I'll need to know how to set the Alpine.

Just play some music you like that has heavy bass, perferably something low that will get the woofers moving. Slowly turn up the gain knob with the hu at 3/4 volume. Stop turning it up when the subs either begin to hit mechanical limits (then turn down some lol) or the speakers hit a point of diminishing returns in regards to how much louder they get. So if your turning the gain and it isn't getting louder, stop turning it up and turn it down until you hear it begin to get quieter..

This will get between a 3:1 or 4:1 gain overlap. Minor clipping on most musical peaks with over 50% of your amps power being used at all times. If you speaker and amp are closely rated in power, or your speaker is rated higher than your amp this is pretty much always very safe. Again, just use common sense, if you at max output you at max output and 5 more clicks of the volume knob isn't going to help you.. If the front speakers aren't getting loud enough at the volume level your subs are maxed out in output at, kick the gains on the subs down a hair more and then turn up the hu volume a hair more.

What test tone do you use for setting a 4 channel amp that is going to be powering mids/highs?

So you take the watts and multiply it by the load, so say it's a 4 channel amp with 100 x 4 at 4 ohms would iI multiply 100 x 4ohm?

Or would I bridge it and multiply 200 x 4 ohm?
