How do I deaden a door that looks like this....

Why bother? He's already said he isn't going to close the hole with sheet metal, which means front and rear sound waves will not be kept separated. IB will ****. Of course, Im sure he wont be willing to build sealed/AP enclosures either, so meh, he's bound to have lousy midbass.
Can't tell from the first picture how the speaker mates up with the grill, but if he can acoustically reinforce the trim panel in a way that makes a tight seal around the speaker, he should be able to get pretty close. Should follow almost the same path as sheet metal would with the possibility of many fewer openings. Another possibility that might be easier to get to follow the contours than sheet metal is fiberglass. That's my preference if there's time.

Looks like someone copied the design of the vw doors, but forgot to include the inner skin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Mazda and Mini doors are like that too - except with an insert to close them up. I hope this isn't a trend.

If Im understanding you correctly, using the plastic interior panel as your isolation baffle is going to be a handful of headaches. For example, the panel also have an air tight seal also (low-pressure-tight actually).

I knew Id seen doors like this before, but I couldn't remember where. Must have been a VW.

I think the audi a4/a6 are similar too. Can't recall exactly, it was a few years ago when I was putting midbass in the doors of one. I Hate the way the drivers mount to the door card, and not the door itself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My original suggestion was made with the assumption that the trim panel was going to be more complicated and substantial. Without actually seeing the door, I can't tell if sealing that gaping hole is possible. It looks like a handful of headaches may come with any solution, but agree that sealing the hole, if possible, should be the first effort.

I agree. But Im betting your original idea of using sheet metal would do a decent job, as you could pound contours into it to go around those electrical plugs etc. And yeah, if all else failed, a fiberglass job would work.

my '96 Camry's doors are like that. I had to make my own stiff baffle and use the door panel to separate the front/rear waves. The door panel needed to be mass loaded up the ying yang to where they weighed at least 20lbs.

Now I have my midbass in the kicks and I wonder why I just didn't start with that in the first place.

Probably had something to do with cutting big arse pieces of metal out of your floorboards //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That might be it... and possibly moving all of my OE fuse boxes/wiring.

OH yeah, forgot that. that's also the reason another certain camry has mids in the dash instead of kicks. I pulled off the trim panel and said fook that chit. lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
