higher gain setting creates engine noise

I just bought a zapco iforce 4 ch amp. I had a kicker 300.4. The shop who installed it said the amp was bad and thats why it had engine noise. I bought the zapco to get rid of it. It is gone as long as I dont turn the gain past 1/4 the way up. Then the enginme noise starts. Why does it only come with a higher setting, and not alll the time. What causes engine noise like this? Is this when a line driver is reccomended? Tommorow I will set it by the gain tutorial. Im about to leave for the night. Thanks

ground loop most likely. make sure all your amps are grounded to the same spot and that the ground point is secure to the chassis and is bare metal. you gotsta scrape all the crap above it off to make sure its a clean metal to metal contact.

If its a ground loop how come it doesnt happen at 1/8 gain? Ill check the grounds again. The shop swapped out an alpine for my kicker and it made no noise but I bet thats with the gain down.

and btw, the shop told you it was the amp so they could sell you a new one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif don't ever trust alot of shops on stuff like this.

hell, when i had my tantrum checked out, the guy came back and told me it was fried, then i asked about a repair, and they said that pg won't do it, cuz they're pretty much going out of business, which is why they quit selling pg stuff.

freakin tools. i hate going into audio plus anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Well I sure didnt buy anything from them, they mostlty sell rockford and alpine at unreasonable prices. I know the owner from when I was in school. They did do a good job on my screens. The minute I got the kicker it had wine so I assumed they were correct. I went from a kenwood with no wine to the kicker with wine.

So a nice eq with line driver would help? Thanks for the replys
