high quality power cable - home depot?!

The TAS rec. was for use for short runs of speaker cable. The Home Depot stuff has adequate shielding and high copper content and is not a bad deal for a DIY setup.

......and Frosty, TAS is better than most of the gay stereo stuff out there. You probably read Hi-Fi or some such junk.

TAS has some of the better articles out their. I wouldnt call them a "joke", all stereo mags are anal about cables.

I guess now that I think about it, the power cable doesnt really matter when your running it to a cheap amp into a cheap woofer from a battery. It might make a difference if you have really accurate stuff and need a cable to match it.

Im an electrical contractor and there is no way in hell I would put put anything but car audio cable in a car stereo.Thats just ghetto.JMHO

Plus the fact that I can go to the local wholsaler and get 25 ft rolls of 0/1 gauge for $24.

If the electrical properties are the same...which they are...and the physical/chemical properties lie well within the expected bounds of what you'd find in a vehicle...why not?

And as far as my opinions about TAS, Stereophool, Hi-Fi Minus...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I hold a rather dim view of the general "audiophile" population...once in a long while, the hobby press will come out with a decent article or review, but most of the time...I'll stick to online stuff like TNT, DIYaudio, et al.

Like I said,because its ghetto,thats why.

I will laugh my *** off and shake my head at ANYONE who uses this in a hi end install.

Unless youre an inner city black,Mexican,or Cuban. Then you have a good excuse on why youre using it:laugh:

And the wire you guys are talking about has just made a 20% jump in price in the last 3 weeks(ya know, rebuilding from hurricanes and such, materials go up)

I can buy car stereo wire cheaper and I buy ALOT of wire(work mostly for Walmart and you know how many of them there are)

Unless you can back your statement up with some credible physical facts...you're not worth the time to read.

Good for you that you can buy "car audio wire" cheaper. Some of us can't.

Again, provide actual information to support your arguments, or politely STFU.

Thanks.

Its made for home/commercial wiring. Not car stereo.

NOT MADE FOR IT.Best reason why not to use it.FACT.

Ghetto your car up and waste your $$$$ on more expensive wire thats not needed by all means if you feel the need.

If I,a person who buys 1000's of ft of elec wire per month can get car audio wire cheaper,id say youre not that smart of a consumer when it comes to shopping around.

My last amp used parts that were originally designed for use in Cold-War era B-52 bombers (the tube rectifiers originally built for the onboard radar). The 12AX7 and 12AU7 dual envelope triodes were originally specified for voltage amplification in oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers, until someone found that they sounded pretty **** good in an audio circuit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My point? Original intent has nothing to do with suitability. If you take into account all the design factors you need (in the case of wiring, flexibility, amperage, and jacket material), there's nothing wrong with using something that wasn't originally conceived for that use.

and waste your $$$$ on more expensive wire thats not needed by all means if you feel the need.
For 90% of people out there, welding cable is cheaper than "car audio wire". So I don't know what you mean by this.

Are we talking about welding wire or elec wire made to carry power to light switchs and such???

Heres another reason on why to use car audio cable for car audio use, most elec wire has chemically treated jackets that while not important in power for houses/welders/lights MIGHT have a negative effect on sensitive car audio electronics(pure speculation,)Lots of times while stripping new wire you will find the jacket material embedded in the strands.

And im an average Joe when buying car stereo wire getting that price vs contractor who buys shitloads of elec wire.

So heres my 4 reasons why not to use it:

Looks like ***

Isnt made for it

more expensive

and could potentially harm sensitive electronics(again,PURE SPECULATION)

I understand that everyone likes to get a deal but im also a firm beleiver that most of the time, you get whats you pay for.

Not to mention I dont think the wirings jacket is meant to withstand the high underhood heat youre going to expose it too(definetely not constant high temps). The jacketing will be cracked off within a few years if you drive the car much meaning replacement.

Why not do it right the 1st time?
