high output alt q's

I received my excessive amprage 300 hairpin about a month ago, dropped it in 2 weeks ago. I have the ea alt, big 3 and a duracell agm g34 under the hood of my 2001 ford explorer. My voltage seems to rest at 12.6 to 13 when my car is at idle in park, after its warmed up and everything. Is this normal? Also I have no amps in my car yet. I did put a shorter belt on it because of pully diameter (.300 shorter belt)and it seems to squeal when I accelerate but only squeals the first time I drive it of the day. Do I need a shorter belt? I was hoping it would be at least high 13's to low 14's at idle.

you have a internal regulator? sonetimes larger alts need more excitation over the factory unit.. its just not enought feed back.
Like it needs a load on the alt to put out the amps? Yea it's internally regulated.

whats your idle rpm?
500 to 600

Sounds like a belt problem of you have squealing... Contact Nate at excessive and see what he has to say.

My excessive 350 hair pins idle at 600rpm and 14.7v hot

My buddy 300a hairpin in his Hhr were 14.4v+ at idel but now externally regulated for 16v life

500 to 600
same problem with my singer. Idle's too low, computer doesn't tell the alt to charge properly. Need external regulated or some kind of low rpm mod to override the computer system in the car. Or you can try to manually increase your vehicle's idle RPM if your car has something that allows that.

It squeals not really loud but I diffently does the first time I drive it but once it's warm it doesn't do it any more. Might try a starter belt and hope it picks it up.

Yea I believe it's to low where do you get a external regulator from the alt company?

So when I do put my amps in audio legion 3500 and 2 ppi amps in is this go in to be a issue. Is something that needs to be addressed befor putting a load on the car electric. Also have a group 31 in the rear when I do put my amps in.

My small case Singer 320 amp hairpin makes almost no power at idle, lol. It's a small case, and designed to make power at higher rpm like where my car idled.

Just depends on the regulator and other parts they used

I talk to nate and he said that mine should be internally regulated. The ea alt came with a harness that has a yellow wire and he says it needs to connected to a 12v ignition. My stock harness has a yellow wire and I connected the two. I believe it's a 12v Ignition because I can read my voltage in the stock volt meter. The only thing I haven't tried was putting the stock alt power wire on it and a shorter belt. You think because it shows it in the dash means it's a 12 volt ignition? I can try and read it with the volt meter when I get out of work.
