Hello, I need some help figuring out what amp(s) I need to support my current setup.

This is my Current Setup. TOTAL of 3 Subs.

SONY SUBS X 2

Manufacturer Part Number XSGTX121LS

Manufacturer Sony Corporation

Product Model XS-GTX120LS

Product Name Xplod XS-GTX120LS Woofer

Impedance 4 Ohm

Driver Type 12" Polypropylene Woofer

Minimum Frequency Response 42 Hz

Maximum Frequency Response 1 kHz

RMS Output Power 300 W

PMPO Output Power 1000 W

PIONEER SUB X 1

RMS Output Power: 300 W

PMPO Output Power: 1300 W

Driver Type: 12" Polypropylene Woofer

Minimum Frequency Response: 20 Hz

Maximum Frequency Response: 220 Hz

Impedance: 4 Ohm

Sensitivity: 95 dB

*EDIT* - I know they're not the best subs but this is in a ford ranger XL 1996 truck(standard Cab)

Don't mix and match subs. Pick one or the other. Also if you suggest a price range, I'm sure someone can chime in with some options that are reliable and make the power you need.

next question is what would sound better if i shouldnt mix it.

or 1

PIONEER SUB X 1

PMPO Output Power: 1300 W

They're pretty comparable subs for both optimal sound quality and output.

Naturally, the pair of Sony's would have more potential for loudness than a single Pioneer.

You'd be looking for a mono amp around 600w rms at 2 ohms.

Tons of options. Some so-so stuff in the $100-120 range or something reasonable quality for $150+

you will wire the pair of four ohm subs in parallel for a 2 ohm load.

if you added the third in parallel you'd need an amp that was 1 ohm stable.

i agree you want to avoid mixing sub types and brands. but if you were dead set on it, i recommend separate sealed chambers for each sub.

this amp would give you the flexibility to run either 2 or 3 subs (and it's in stock)

how it will sound (2 or 3) is highly dependent on how you build the box and how it is sized. getting adequate airspace is important and you'd rather have 2 subs with proper airspace than 3 subs with too little airspace.

have you measured your maximum top and bottom depth, height, and width to calculate what available airspace you have?

something like this

the same way.

having a piece of wood btw them doesn't change how they'd be wired.

Whether you connect your wires directly to the sub or through a terminal cup -- the subs are still 4 ohms and you still need to connect them parallel to get 2.

I ended up using a amp with these specs (Brand and model are slipping my mind at the moment)

Maximum Output Power: 1 Ch x 600W at 4 ohms

Maximum Output Power: 1 Ch x 1100W at 2 ohms

Rated Output Power: 1 Ch x 330W at 4 ohms (1.0% THD)

Rated Output Power: 1 Ch x 600W at 2 ohms (1.0% THD)

Low Pass Filter: 50-300Hz (Variable), 12dB/oct

Frequency Response: 10Hz-300Hz

with these Sony Subs X 2

Tech Features Impedance 4 Ohm

Tech Features Driver Type 12" Polypropylene Woofer

Tech Features Minimum Frequency Response 42 Hz

Tech Features Maximum Frequency Response 1 kHz

Tech Features RMS Output Power 300 W

Tech Features PMPO Output Power 1000 W

And like i said I dropped them down to 2 ohms

Anything should be changed? Also is it true that 4 ohm subs down to 2 wear more and tend to die quicker? or that a myth?

Also is it true that 4 ohm subs down to 2 wear more and tend to die quicker? or that a myth?

It's not a myth. It's just wrong. Myths are "widely believed to be true".

The fact that the subs are wired in a particular way to achieve a particular impedance has NO impact on their durability. The primary factor in their durability is the power they're receiving.

If they were wired in series for 8 ohms to an amp that does 1000w at 8 ohms - THAT would be a threat.

The fact that they're wired for 2 is fine. More specifically, the fact that they're getting ~300w each is ideal.

The XM-ZZR3301 should work well.

So I know you guys said don't mix subs.

Would it make a difference to put another sub in that is running at a different ohm? Since I have running them at 2ohm to now run a 4 ohm sub(that pioneer?) I'm also talking about on two different amps.

One or two, they are still subwoofer outs and are mono summed signals from both left and right. Even the 2 RCA subwoofer pre-outs on the 2nd one...

Nothing to add to this, Just wanted to say good luck and that I miss MiniDisc. OH!! Is that a Japanese Radio Tuner or does it get stations in the US?

That would be fantastic! Id love to see the skills involved here. It always intrigues me to see some customizing from small and detailed to large...
