Well i would like to say hello to everybody in car audio world im new here. So my problem is this. I have 3 12 kicker CVRs running on a massive audio 1500X1 and polk audio components running on a massive audio 400X4. I have 0 gauge wire running for power and 4 gauge going to the amps. Oh yea before i get beat up yes i have a cap i just havent had a chance to take it out so i can put a battery back there cause i know it does nothing. I also have a crossover back there to. All of a sudden this morning i hear a sound through the speakers like the amp was going out and i wasnt beating or anything and boom car dies and then cuts back on all of a sudden. Then of course no sounds check the hood fuse which is a 300amp fuse for the 0 gauge is blown. So my question is for that to happen what could of happened to blow that big of a fuse and cause my car to die out like that. Now if i touch the power wires together without the fuse holder the wires start to burn so is something touching? Any suggestions would be really helpful. Im at work now so i cant go out there and mess with it but i will on my lunch so i just need a starting point to look for issues. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like something has worked its way loose and is touching ground causing a short. At least based on the portion of your quote above. Definitely why you have a fuse! DON'T be touching the power wires together without the fuse dude, it is there for a REASON!!! Like to prevent frying your equipment, electrical and basically burning up your car. And if you are blowing your main fuse (300A), then you have a big short somewhere.

Remove the power from the battery and then take a methodical approach and trace the wiring in your system. If there isn't an obvious wiring issue, it may be a component. Disconnect everything and then start re-connecting one component at a time.

something is shorted out............. I would guess it is your crossover. What you need to do is pull everything you put in there and get the car running. Then re-install one thing at a time and make sure everything is secure and protected from shorting out. Your ground wires should be close, no more then 3 feet from the component. Your RCA , remote, speaker lines should be on the opposite side of the car from your Power o/1gauge. Driver, passenger. Might be a good Idea to fuse 1 1/2 foot from distro block and 1 1/2 foot from battery. When wiring keep fuses out so line is dead. only put fuse in when you have finshed a componet and check it for power up. well this is how I do things on my car.

Well thank you on that advise. I know i shouldnt be touching the wires but not only do i have a fuse up front but i have some before you get to the amp to thats why i decided to touch it to see if everything powered up again. But yea i know i still shouldnt have done it. I have the amps in my spare tire well so there on a board and i know there are wires running under there so imma check there for any problems first and if nothing looks out of place there imma just start from the beginning. Once the fuse blew the car started right back up so i knwo that had to be the problem on why the car shut off. I just dont understand what could of came loose after a few years of being hooked up that would cause a short that big to shut the car off.
