help with wiring

buddy of mine has a 2000 silverado with out the bose system....he was in a hurry to put his HU in and got to anxious and cut the stock wiring harness off.

Ive tried mixing and matching wires to get it working correct but always come up with wrong combintations where cd player and speakers will work but then his gauges wont light up anymore etc....

I was wondering if anyone knew where i could find maybe a wiring diagram showing what each colors on the harness is or maybe someone knows them.

Reasons its kinda hard is there are like 3 green wires that are the same color etc etc. just many complications that could be easier with a wiring diagram for the stock harness. thanks in advance

go to your local part store and get the book for the truck. It has alot of wiring diagrams in the back. Maybe its in there.

Hey how can you tell if you have the bose system....my sticker says upgraded speakers but the speaker grill doesnt say bose??

Break out the multimeter and quit guessing.

Find your ground by testing for continuity with the outside shield on the cigarette lighter. Find constant power by testing for a wire that shows voltage with the key in any position. The illumination wire reads voltage with the parking lights on; the dimmer wire does the same, but varies with the dimmer switch position. The accessory wire shows voltage with the key in the accessory position, no voltage when it's off.

Set the meter for OHMS and look for pairs of wires that read around 4 (or, since it's a GM, maybe 10) ohms of resistance with each other. Once you find a pair of speaker wires, touch them to opposite ends of a AA battery and listen for the pop to figure out which speaker it is.

That will get you all the wires you need for the new radio. You'll probably have to replace some blown fuses before you find all the power/illumination wires, or if you want the dash lights to work again.
