Help with wattage and ohms please!

The only one of those thats on the amp is the low pass filter, which is set to on ( 80Hz)
wow, that's interesting...well I guess all you need to do is set your gain properly. Here's a good tutorial: JL Audio - Car Audio Systems

The voltage you'll need is 40V.

voltage = sqrt(power * impedance) = sqrt(400 * 4) = sqrt (1600) = 40

Make sure you put the DMM probes in the same terminals your sub connects to, they need to be bridged (one on each channel).

Alright just read to enclosure paperwork and it says it's either wired for a 2 or 4 ohm load, but where the speaker wire terminals are it says 2 ohm. Just got done setting to 40v

That's not so good. That 40V is useless now because it's calculated using 4 ohms as your nominal impedance and 400w as your power output (which was your amps rated value at 4 ohms). I'm surprised it even runs at 2 ohm.

No, you need to pull that sub out of the box and verify the wiring. If it's truly a dual 2 ohm sub there's no possible way for it to be wired to a 2 ohm load. I'm 90% sure it's already wired to 4 ohm but if you want to be absolutely sure you need to pull it out. You could try to read the final impedance from the terminals on the box but I've had mixed results with that in the past. You could give it a shot though. Put your DMM in resistance mode (the one with the Omega symbol) and put the leads on the terminals on your box. Make sure to disconnect the wires going to your amp. Tell us what it reads.

You paid $100 for a $30 install kit, $250 for a $150 Sub. The best Dual deck(not saying much) with Ipod hookup was $60
Dude, just stop, we get it, he paid too much. If returning his equipment was an option I'm sure he would have said so by now. Your just rubbing salt in the wound and it's not necessary so GTFO.

What, you have a problem trying to save somebody $300 bucks and a ton of trouble when he gets tired of the sub par equipment. If he just got the stuff it might be a option for him but he is so stoked to get it hooked up hes not thinking about that right right now! I've been there
