Running a 10" in a seal .60 cu. box. Box is made from MDF, has 1 lb fill in it and is well sealed. It sounds bad. Distorts even at low volume. Is there a special way to adjust the amp gain? Instructions? I know the box is small but thats all the room I had since I don't do glass work.

thanks

With a box that small, all that fill and you dont know where to set the gain. Its not hard to believe that you havent blown your speaker. Speakers need air to cool, hell just to work right. but with a box that small very little fill should be added or atleast away from the port of the speaker.

The sub has only been played twice, at very low volumes. Why twice only? Well, the rest of the system is not fully installed. The fill is not touching the framework of the speaker. Now, any constructive advise out there? I'm not an idiot about this stuff, its just been a while since I've done it.......

What is the recommend sealed box size on your sub? Is your box smaller than required and thus why you put fill? I had fill in my home sealed sub that I built. And at the time I did not know better. My box was the right size and everything but it sounded bad too. I removed the fill and it now sounds great. Just a thought.

I'll give that a try. Apline states that it should be .65 to 1.0 cu. Thats why I added the fill. I never used fill on the boxes I built in the past, but again, that was over a decade ago and I wasn't worried about trunk space!

Thanks for a constructive reply.

No problem, let me know if that works.
