acid core is usually meant for plumbing and rosin is meant for multi use, i have seen people buy acid without knowing

well the solder wire is pretty thick stuff, like 12 guage i would guess , bigger than remote wire , about the size of speaker wire

If you're going to do repair work even somewhat regularly spend the $14 and get a bulb type desoldering iron from the Shack.

get a new amp and solve 2 problems:

The solder wick (braid) works better than any ******* tool I have used for removing solder. The heat and tap method works too and it won't hurt the board or the components on it. Of course, you don't really have to remove the solder to replace the component. If you are quick with the iron you can heat it and slide the legs of the component through it.
