help with setup

Hey all, my roommate just got an Xplod XM-2002GTR 1200w amp and a Pioneer TS-W301R 12" 800W 4ohm sub and was wondering how he should wire the amp to the sub. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On the amp you should see 'bridged' on the speaker outputs, just hook up the + to the + and the - to the -. Should look like

Amplifiers output terminals

+ - + -

+____-

subwoofer's speaker wire.

Just bridge it into 4 ohms like so.

We tried that but something was wrong because it played for about 4 minutes and then the sub started smoking. Any ideas?
