Hello.

I'm new to the entire car audio scene.

My car is a 2002 montero sport and I'm looking for a completly new setup.

I was thinking of getting the Pioneer P9800BT head unit with PIONEER TS-D161R as my front and PIONEER TS-D691R as my rear.

Along with a Profile AP1040 1000W 4 CH Amplifier amp.

Now with the questions(please bare with me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif ):

Does my setup look ok or what needs to be changed?

I would also like a sub and I have no idea which one to get.

Do I need another amp for the sub or can I use the AP1040 for the speakers and sub(would that be bad)?

I get free XPRESS:DT-41 tweeters with the order of the amp, should I switch them to something else?(does it matter?)

Thank you for all your help.

Guy

Most people here ditch rear fill. I would use that money and upgrade the fronts. Not too many Pioneer speakers get great reviews around here except the Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS. Look into them. They are 6 3/4 components, so you might have to make a custom MDF baffle to mount them. An MDF baffle should be used anyway.

The 1000w rating on the amp is meaningless. The specs are:

80 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms

125 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms

225 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohm

Though their power is a bit overrated. Profile makes ok budget amps.

You could use it to power your subs depending on how you wire everything but it would be better to have a separate amp. What are you looking for in the setup? SQ (sound quality), SPL (loud), etc? What is you budget?

Well, those are the Pioneer REV series coaxials, which DO get good reviews around here. If you're just trying to upgrade your factory sound, without having to figure out how to mount component speakers, and if you really want a 4-channel setup, then that is a good setup, much better than stock.

However, for about the same money, you could get a good set of component speakers for the front, and no rear speakers, although they do take a little more effort to install.

In either case, you WILL want to get a subwoofer, though. And an amp for it.

Thanks for the replies.

Well the thing is I'm looking for good sound quality that can be loud but not too loud(does that make sense? quality comes first).

All the speakers currently are factory default and **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Sadly I don't know what components are.(setup will not be done by me in any case).

Ditching the rear speakers doesn't sound too good.

My budget is around 700-800$ and I was planning on ordering from millionbuy.com (good prices)

Thanks again,

Guy

around 700-800$ for the speakers/sub/amp(s)/hu/tweeters(?)

is that not enough? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Is there any reason you want that top end pioneer deck? It honestly sounds a ittle overkill for what you need. There are other decks that have bluetooth support for cheaper. I would personally get a lower end (maybe the 6900bt) Pioneer, spend the extra money on nicer components up front, throw some REV pioneer coaxs in the back with a single 10" and decent amp. I could try to throw something together

::EDIT:: Listen to DejaWiz as well- always has great advice.

Pioneer 6900ub - $185.95

components MB Quart PCE-216 179.95

speaker amp PIONEER GM-5300T (GM5300T) 109.95

sub KICKER 06CVX104 (CVX104) CVX10 $139.95

sub amp that crunch tbayz mentioned $130

That leaves u at about $750 - prob with wires etc go a little overbudget but would be a great sounding system. Only thing I have had no exp with personally is that modell mb quart amp (have used several others - wonderful amps IMO) and that crunch amp

HU: DEH-P690UB $246 shipped (comes with vehicle install hardware)

Front Comps: PG RSd65cs - from eBay like TBayz linked or get them authorized from OCS for $129 shipped.

Amp: Kicker KX650.4 $170 + shipping. HFSC is an authorized Kicker refurb dealer and many here have purchased from them with no incidents.

Sub: AA Assassin 12 $119 shipped

Wiring: Knu 4 gauge 4 channel $50 + shipping

TOTAL: $714 + shipping where applicable

The rest of the $800 budget can be used for sub box (or material if you want to build it yourself) and any other misc hardware you may need, like a battery terminal.

Wire the comps to channels 1 and 2 of the amp, bridge channels 3 and 4 to power the sub. Leave your factory rears in powered by the HU (or try them disconnected for a while to see if you like a front stage only setup).

Wow..

Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Looks good!

What are components though? Are the Phoenix Gold speakers better than those pioneers I posted earlier? I can see that they are 120W and the Pioneer's are 350W I think? I don't know if wattage has anything to do with anything though.

By the way about leaving the rear speakers factory default, are you positive that it's a good idea? They sound pretty horrible to me although that could be because I am using the default radio tape to listen :p.

Shouldn't I get like cheap Pioneer's 6x9 for the rear at least? I don't mind spending another 50$ if it will help.

By the way, the Pioneer hu 690ub is good but does not have bluetooth included. You need to buy that adapter thats like 170$ and one of the main reasons I wanted the 980BT was because of the bluetooth.

1. Components means separate midwoofers and tweeters and comes with passive crossovers to wire them appropriately.

2. With a clean 110-160w rms, those RSd's will really shine. All the reviews point to the fact they have outstanding misbass with that kind of power. For the price, they are a bargain.

3. It doesn't make a difference. Those numbers are MAX power, which means absolutely squat.

4. If you have a strong front stage and a decent sub stage, rear stage can be pointless. I recommend trying it without a rear stage first, then after a few weeks or so if you want some noise in the back, hook up the factory speakers. If it still sounds like butt, then go with a nice replacement set, like Pioneer REVs 6x9 which do nicely off HU power.

The Phoenix Golds are better than the Pioneers, the Phoenix Golds are component speakers, component speakers are when you have a mid/crossover/tweeter, all separate, a coaxial is when the mid/tweeter are together like the Pioneer that you posted

And when looking at watts, look at the RMS! not MAX!!!

And personally I would just disconnect the rears! If you want some later down the road, just run them off the Headunit and you'll be fine

EDIT: DejaWiz beat me too it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
