HELP, which sub setup 2002 Crew Cab Chevy *pics*

I need a little help deciding on my sub setup for my '02 crew cab Silverado.

Space is the obvious hurdle in my situation considering the vehicle. I am trying to stay away from any sort of major fabrication and I would also like to retain all factory functionality and as much of the factory look as possible. I haven’t purchased the subs, box or amp yet, but am leaning toward low budget, something like the power acoustik line of amps and I have no idea what subs to run. If anyone has better suggestions im all ears.

That being said, regarding the box, I have narrowed my options down to 2:

1. Under the rear seat dual 10" box http://www.subthump.com/silverado.htm

2. Possibly taking out the front center seat and replacing it with a box as shown in the picture below (the picture is a JL audio fab'd box, and im just using it as an example, I would make my own)

In the past I had an under the seat setup in my crew cab Dodge and it sounded horrible. So I don’t want that to happen with the setup im going to put in the Chevy. For comparison purposes, this is the setup that was in the Dodge:

(2) Orion P10D4 Subs - Specs: Dual 4ohm voice coils, sealed box requires .50 cu. ft, ported requires .95 cu. ft., RMS 500w, Peak 1000w.

(1) Fosgate BD1001 amp pushing the 2 subs @ 2ohms (1000w to each sub)

I used a bandpass box that looked similar to the one pictured below, but it used the truck's floor board compartments to house the bottom of the subs rather than the box. I tried to find a picture of it online, but couldn’t (most likely because its a p.o.s)

Thanks in advance for any/all help!

I am running a 2006 Dodge quad cab, so I'm obviously in the same situation as yourself. The only viable option I see for us is a sealed underseat box. I am going to try my hand at fibre glassing, and make a custom box to use as much space under the seat as possible. I have a similar sub to what you used (as far as requirements) and my Bostons only need 0.5-0.75^3.

I know with the subs I am using, they have amazing sound quality, so it will sound great in the enclosure I am going to build, even if I have to keep the seats folded up for normal operation.

I'm sure you could make a nice ported enclosure between the front seats, but I am a huge fan of sealed enclosures, and like to have the thrid seat in the front.

I'll put in my 2cents and round out the thread with the opinion from the Ford guy now that you have heard from the Dodge guy lol.

Again similar situation as yourself crew cab truck yet little room. You may be able to lift your rear seat, I am not sure if it is possible, I know it is in the extended cab. Definitely do a custom box, thinking that prefab bandpass thing was the problem in your last truck. Some common subs that are out currently that might work well for you would be...

Or if you can hold off for a little while could check out the new Stereo Integrity BM, or put the box in the center console and go for the Mag or some other sub that requires more mounting depth. Fiberglass may be your friend for the bottom of your box and then go for an up firing setup below the seat.

I personally am gonna go between the front seats, there is ZERO room in the 05+ Fords for anything behind the back seat or below it other than maybe amps or some of the new BM subs.

To be honest I would really like to go with the under-seat sealed enclosure that I have a link for in my original post, but wanted to get everyone's take on it before I order it.

What would everyone reccomend subwoofer wise for the box in this link http://www.subthump.com/silverado.htm (after opening the link scroll to the bottom, its on the right, item "CHDBamp")

To go with that box rules out most of the subs I linked but I believe there is still hope for you yet.

Maybe look into the Treo SSi 10.44 recommended to be in 0.8 ft^3 but some polyfill and you should be ok with that box. Specs

Also (not sure why I didn't mention this before) probably the best bet and should be quite pleasing to the ear would be a pair of Sundown SD-1 v.2 10's, check out this here, http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17667

Even if he doesn't have taste in trucks, he knows his stereo. LOL. Just kidding.

Very good advice.

I have heard bad things about the pre fab boxes for these trucks, so personally I am going to stay away from them. But if you want to give it a shot, let me know how it turns out.
