i would completely disconnect the amp. then make about 1.5' power and ground wires.
run the power to a battery, the ground to the battery, and then use wire for the remote turn on and go straight to the battery positive. if it still goes into protect the amp is bad.
right now you're just looking, and pulling wires etc etc. i think the best way to check is to remove everything from the equation. no long runs of wire through the car, no power for the remote turn on from the hu, nothing. just straight to the battery. hell you dont even have to use big *** wires as you're not going to make any power, just test that the amp will turn on and work.
