Help planning new cheap setup, looking for a sub.

So my last setup cost me in total, $300 dollars. I'm trying to put together another setup now.

The type of music I listen to is mostly rock/indie and rap. I dont plan to compete in any spl contests nor am I crazy about insane bass. I listen at normal levels or slightly loud. I'm looking for a setup that sounds better than the average car.

I'm also trying to make this a pretty cheap setup since I will be doing everything myself so if I mess something up at least it wont be expensive. Plus I'm a college kid and I dont have $$$ to spend on a lot of audio gear. I'm looking into a 4 channel amp, gonna amp the front speakers and bridge 2 channels for the sub. I'm gonna leave the rears alone for now. So here is what I'm thinking....

Front components: Cadence CWM-6KIT Aluminum 6.5" Component Kit $70

Amp: MB Quart ONX4.125 $150

HU: Sony CDX-GT350MP $85

Amp kit: Knu konceptz 4g amp kit, I'll also wire all the speakers with 12g speaker wire. $110

I'll get a custom ported box, tuned around 35hz prob. But I can't decide on a sub. The amp will produce 500watts rms at 4 ohms. I was thinking about getting an RE SEX12D2, T3 T.400 or SKAR Audio VVX-12 (idc about the guy being a scammer, I hear they are good for the $).

All those subs are rated at 600rms though, while the T3 is 400rms. Will only giving them 500rms power be okay? I'm looking for a sub that can play lows decently well. (but that will be up to the box)

So guys, I'm looking to spend around $600 total. Can you suggest a 500rms @ 4ohm 12 inch sub? And can you improve on my setup at all? Maybe suggest another part for around the same price that would be better or cost less?

Thanks!

Sundown Audio SA-12 600 watt sub woofer buy the dual 2ohm VC version, wire it up to 4 ohms, ?????????, PROFIT!!!
Will only giving it 500rms be enough?

SSA DCON, DC LVL2, IA 187, DD1012
I would go with the DC.

That to
The DC and the 187 are awesome but can only be wired to 2ohms. Idk anything about the DD1012, I'll check it out. From what I know of them though it seems to be a little to much for my budget. The SSA's look sick but are only rated at 300rms, wont it be too much even with gains set low?

No such thing as too little power, it's 600rms, but it will still get loud at 500, don't sweat it.

That TC looks awesome, so far that looks like it would be the ideal choice.
yeah, they're nice little subs from what I've heard.

The ssa's can handle 400 rms if you set your gains right. Maybe even more, but I haven't pushed mine that far yet. But they are great woofers, they get really low and are pretty loud for only getting 180 watts ATM

Thanks! I wasnt sure b/c when I searched results about the skars sub ppl seemed to say it wasnt that efficient unless you added a little extra power.

They seem sick from the videos I've seen. But my only options is 500rms so for my first setup I'd probably pass on it since my tuning most likely wont be amazing at first. I dont wanna risk getting it and blowing it after a week.

You will never hurt a speaker by not feeding it enough power, ever. I haven't heard much about the skar subs, but if you look in the subwoofer review section, i think someone did one about them a while back.

Well I guess I'd be more worried about damaging an amp then bc I heard to little power can cause problems to some. I found a few reviews on the skar, seems pretty awesome, especially in the right box.

Thanks guys! You all respond freakin quick! From all the suggestions I have it down to the TC sub, Skar and maybe the Sundown. (doubt it though since its the most expensive) They are basically around the same price besides the sundown. I hear good things about TC so if anyone has personal experience with it let me know.

I'm waiting on 2 lvl 3s now, I dont have 3 but it would be nice!

I got a nice demo of a 12 lvl 4 and it was some of the best bass I have heard and I've been around the stuff for a while.

If you call them you can get a dual 2. Thats what my level 3s are
