Confined to Reality......
Hi guys and gals,

Ok so my system has slowly coming together and now I have to think about replacing the speakers in the doors. Currently I have This amp powering These speakers(one in each door 4 in total). I have each speaker on its own channel and the filter on high and no db bost on with the cross over set to the higher frequency (IDK exact numbers but I can check). When I set the crossover point I just tried to use my ear to set it to what sounds best. It sounds ok to me, but when I ride in my sister's 99 cougar her stock (I think its the premium sound package) speakers sound better than my speakers do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif With that said are the 6 x 8 I have in there now any good?

I was thinking of switching my rear speakers to some 6.5 for some mid bass but I don't know which ones. I was also thinking that I might not be getting enough power to the speakers since I am giving them ~ 75 watts and their "max" is 225

Basically I need advise on my set up. As for SQ vs SPL I just want it to sound good and get loud so they are both important. Budget wise I would like to keep it under 150, but I can spend more if necessary.

Thanks for your help

If you have the room for a custom MDF adapter, make one and get the Phoeniz Gold RSd65cs comps for the fronts.

Bridge that amp for the fronts, ditch the rears (or run them off the HU if you actually like rear fill), and make sure to tune your gains with a DMM using test tones.

One question before you go all apeshit replacing everything - Are your doors deadened?

Lol I went apeshit before I found these forums that is why I have after market speakers and amp but not that good quality sound, but my apeshit days are over. I have been trying to make a plan for everything now, that is why I am asking this in the thread about a month before I can afford the speakers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Making an adapter out of MDF is going to be hard for me to do due to lack of proper tools, could I just buy an 6x8 to 6.5 adapter?

If you can help a noob out, Why are the Phoenix Gold rsd65cs better than the 6x8's?

The doors are not deadened yet, when I get the new speakers I was going to.

Thanks man

I've read a few of the reviews floating around the net on the RSd65's and they all conclude that the midbass is super deep and rich - totally insane for the price you pay.

I really recommend making adapters out of MDF, as there's much less chance to pass vibrations to the innder door panel than with those cheap and chincy plastic or metal adapters. If you don't have the tools, I would recommend calling up some audio shops or maybe even some woodworking shops if there are any nearby and ask for a quote.

And definitely get those doors deadened! http://www.secondskinaudio.com

If I were to buy two set of those components would that be over kill?

Thanks for the advise, Any one else out there have any advise for me, still have about a month before I can buy the speakers.

Depends on your goals. If you want SQ, then I would suggest one set for the fronts and then run your sub(s) only. If you want loud and rear fill, then two sets would be a good choice.
