Help me pick an active setup

for simple 3-way HUs, I'd go with an 880prs or a cda-9887 for their seperate L/R level adjusting capabilities.

or to save money, go with the older active HUs: cda-9835, 9833,9815.

Pioneer DEH-P960mp, p9600mp, p860mp, p8600mp

One thing I'd suggest is to run the tweets of the HU, since they have high sensitivity compared to mids, and bridge your 4 channel for the mids
I'm sticking with the stock HU. Only one aftermarket kit available for the car , and it looks like shit with it. I am currently negotiating the price on a Coustic XM-3 (3 way crossover).

Hmm.. I'd prefer going with the HU route for the T-corr capabilities. IMO it makes a HUGE difference.

You can also try the Rockford 3sixty.2 for oem integration, with 3way xover, T-corr, and major eq capabilities.

Looked at the 360.2, more money than I want to spend right now. What the heck is T-corr?

I bet dollars to donuts your current passive set will sound cleaner and more accurate than a set of 8" midBASS drivers and a pair of low-playing tweeters.

Consider the off-axis performance of an 8" driver. They will be door-mounted, right? 45-60* off axis? What do those FR plots show for their performance at those angles?

Is a tweeter really going to sound "good" or "right" playing midrange frequencies despite the fact that you may be able to sneak it down there?

FWIW, my midrange plays to 8k and my tweeters take over from there. My stage has never been more "alive" and "full" before. My personal opinion is to keep the midrange on the midrange, install it correctly, power it adequately and let the other drivers accompany it.

Excellent advice. Are you 2-way or 3-way front? If you're 2-way what mid are you running?

what midrange are you running?

ETA: These are standard woofers, guitar speakers can play much higher even in 12" and 15".

These are proffesional studio monitors I use with a 10" and a tweeter. Dynaudio BM15's

good post //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but..two things.

1- Just because it can play up to 3khz does it necessarily mean that it will sound good to that point

2- Will these perform well in car audio applications?

Right, so the Exclusive 8" is 12 dB down at 2.5K at 60* off axis. That's probably most vehicle's L door set up. If you can get an 8" in the kicks, then I suppose that's a different story.

Consider one of the main benefits of using a dedicated midrange in an active 4-way is to physically position (equalize path lengths) and aim (axis points, beaming) the driver. This comes at a cost, however, as install and tuning is required.

Seems lots are so apt to dump their passive set ups thinking active is superior. Well, it might be superior.....in a half year when you finally work it out. If you don't have the patience, then it might not be for you.

It's quite easy to put 8"s in the kicks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I never knew how easy it was until last weekend. No fiberglass involved either.

by going active, many are trying to improve their sound, but it's not something that you can easily dive into, especially for those that are inexperienced.

Question about the recommended Seas Neo tweeters.

What is the sound difference between the aluminum and textile tweeters because it appears there are two types of Seas Neo tweeters?

Thanks!
