Help me pick an active setup

Yes, make sure you can accomodate a 3+" driver. I think the ID OEM is 3.1xx"
The Pioneer REVs are already in the door (2.5" mounting depth?), and there is plenty of room for a .75" baffle if I need one. So as far as mounting goes I think I will be okay.

Seas Neo Tweets-madisound.com 32bucks a piece
Mach 5 MLI 65- mach5audio.com 36 per driver

I just can't really stand when people post that. IMO, it's cocky and I prefer tits.

Also, since he has a $250 budget, he can do MUCH better. However, I really like those Seas Neo tweets and I would recommend them myself.

even if you run into issues as far as how high the 8" could play, wouldnt a set of horns like the image dynamics play low enough to accomodate the 8?
Yes. It's the route I'm taking, but like the OP states, it's another ball game when it comes to tuning them. Though they can sound good out of the box, but would need toning down, since are very efficient.

My recommendation would be for you get those Seas Neos and match them with a pair of Peerless Exclusive 7". Peerless Nomex 7" looks nice as well.

I've recently installed a pair of 7" Exclusives in my brothers car and they sound amazing. Much more output and clarity compared to Mach 5 Mli-6s that were in his car prior to the exclusives. Instead of the Seas neo tweets, my brother has a pair of Helix S801 tweets from the S6 comp set. Nice low fs tweeters, but costly

Also, be sure to use a ~3/4" baffle since it is much more sturdier than just sheet metal on the door.

Seas Neo Tweeter it is then, and most likely ID OEMS.

For some reason, I was assuming the JBL GTO75.4II amp I have coming in the mail contained on it all the processing power I'd need to run active, but now I'm starting to think twice. The source for the sound (unfortunately) will be from the stock HU to the JBL's high level input. Does the amp have on it all the crossover settings or will I need another piece of processing equipment?

1. James knows his stuff, so go with what he recommends

2. I currently have a set of the ID OEM 6.5" mids in my front doors, running active, and I really like them a lot. They're a great sounding mid, especially for the price. Mine are getting about 110w rms a side.

Did you buy the amp from Sqeak?

I highly doubt that amp has all the crossover settings/abilities you'll need.

From a picture of the amp, I only see HP, LP, and off. No BP feature

Unfortunately, so do I. Now I guess need recommendations for a sound processing unit with variable crossovers.

I bought the amp from cd6551 for $115 shipped.

If you get 8s you need to get midrange speakers (3way)...tweeters wont play low enough for the 8s
No. If you pick the right components you can match 8's or 10's or even 15's to a tweeter. You must look carefully at the freq ranges of the woofer and the tweet to be sure they have some overlap. The woofer must play high enough to reach the low end of the tweeters range and vice-versa. Either you need a woofer that will go high enough to meet the tweet, a tweet that can go low enough to meet the woofer, or usually have them meet somewhere in the middle, that is your crossover frequency.

This is critical in any speaker matching, active or passive. At least with active you don't have to worry about the impedence matching issues.

what 8s within his budget will play those high frequencies?

please show me these 10s and 15s...Im not doubting it, I just want to see them for myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ETA: These are standard woofers, guitar speakers can play much higher even in 12" and 15".

These are proffesional studio monitors I use with a 10" and a tweeter. Dynaudio BM15's

What do you have those bandpassed at again?

Mid-Lo: 80Hz, 12db/oct

Mid-Hi: 2.5kHz, 12db/oct

I tried the Mid-Hi at 3.2 for a week or so after I first got them, but they seemed to breakup just a tad in the upper midrange. They sound much more balanced and direct at 2.5, in my opinion.

Did you ever try 3.2kHz @ 24db/oct?

for simple 3-way HUs, I'd go with an 880prs or a cda-9887 for their seperate L/R level adjusting capabilities.

or to save money, go with the older active HUs: cda-9835, 9833,9815.

Pioneer DEH-P960mp, p9600mp, p860mp, p8600mp

One thing I'd suggest is to run the tweets of the HU, since they have high sensitivity compared to mids, and bridge your 4 channel for the mids
